Perspectives in Parenting

Perspectives in parenting, mom with special needs child coloring

Sometimes you just need to hear the ideas, thoughts, and opinions of other parents. Our Perspectives in Parenting section is focused on providing a place for you to find out what other moms are thinking and how they are handling the issues that go along with the hard job of being a parent.

There are a lot of different perspectives in parenting and New Orleans Mom is a place where these different ideas can be shared. We strive to provide not just valuable information to mothers across the Crescent City, but also ideas about how to think about the issues in their lives.

In our Perspectives in Parenting section, you’ll find lots of stories about the everyday events, problems, annoyances, and issues that we all face as moms. We talk about the household and the challenges of keeping everyone in the family working together.  We offer tips on how to recognize and reflect on the good things in our lives. We also tackle difficult topics about our society and culture

Some of our perspectives in parenting stories offer key advice on wellness. We take you through some of the challenging parts of motherhood, like how and when to use a breast pump, while also offering an amusing look at alternative uses of breastmilk

Our writers talk about important things that Moms in the Big Easy need to know, such as how to teach financial responsibility to your children or how to survive the stresses of the holiday season.

With more than 30 contributors to New Orleans Mom, we offer our readers unique Big Easy perspectives in parenting that they won’t find anywhere else.

Let’s talk about Cesarean birth for a minute. Seems that the hype is all about giving birth vaginally and unmedicated, and for some reason, Cesarean birth is shamed or simply misunderstood. Like all births, Cesarean is beautiful. I personally...
Dear Mom, The pressure to be perfect can weigh heavy, especially on a mother. That amount of pressure never came from you because you never attempted to prove to me (or anyone) that being perfect was a part of life....

We Are The Mothers

We are the mothers living through a global pandemic, home schooling, cooking, cleaning, working, worrying about childhood trauma and emotional stress, checking on our friends, baking bread and keeping businesses afloat. We are the mothers setting the boundaries of technology....
We're Friends, Best Friends Remember being a little kid and seeing someone in a pink shirt, hey you like pink, I like pink, let's be best friends. Easy. As we get older things change, we tend to stick close to...
Last week during a virtual hangout with a group of girlfriends, I vented about how badly I wish my son’s daycare was open. Working from home full-time with a baby certainly was never a desire of mine, but nonetheless,...
Making Career Decisions Around Life Seasons :: How to Reenter the Workforce I am 39 years old and several years "behind" in my career. I say this because had I worked straight through, in the trajectory I was on, I...
I was a teacher first. Then I became a mom. And now, I'm a student in nursing school. During this special week dedicated to teachers, mothers, and nurses, I've been reflecting on the many hats I wear and how...
I grew up as the only child of a single mom who often had to work in the evening, so from elementary school and on, I often found myself eating dinner alone. I would watch movies and tv shows...
My daughter is a junior in high school. We have discussed her upcoming prom for months. Obviously it was canceled, and rightfully so. Unfortunately her disappoint is still there. Our family has been hit hard by this virus like...
