Best Schools in New Orleans

New Orleans Schools, School Admissions Tours and School Open Houses
One of the most popular questions we receive at New Orleans Mom is, “how does the school application process in New Orleans work?” Unfortunately, the answer is not simple or straightforward as New Orleans offers a variety of private, parochial and public schools … and there is NOT one centralized or streamlined application system. Choosing a school in New Orleans, LA is a BIG decision and not one that comes easily. The best advice we have is to research as many schools in New Orleans as possible, tour as many schools in person in New Orleans as possible and talk to other New Orleans parents. If you are moving to New Orleans, New Orleans Mom is proud to offer dozens of resources for New Orleans families.
We invite you to peruse our listing for a greater New Orleans area school (including Metairie, Kenner and Northshore schools) that meets your family’s needs and priorities. We always recommend that you “visit” as many schools as possible at the Open Houses listed below (whether that is virtual or in person) and talk to as many New Orleans parents as you can find. If you are looking for more information about the NCAP (formerly One App process) process for Orleans Parish public schools, one local mom shared her insight here.
If you have questions about specific schools or processes, we also encourage you to ask the moms in our neighborhood groups about their thoughts and experiences. Who better to ask about local New Orleans schools than actual moms who have experienced the schools themselves?
Please know that New Orleans Mom recognizes that school choices are hard. We want you to know that whatever school you choose for your family we respect you.
Do you have a little one that is not quite ready for school? You can check out a comprehensive list of New Orleans early childhood options including preschools and mother’s day out programs HERE.
