Perspectives in Parenting

Perspectives in parenting, mom with special needs child coloring

Sometimes you just need to hear the ideas, thoughts, and opinions of other parents. Our Perspectives in Parenting section is focused on providing a place for you to find out what other moms are thinking and how they are handling the issues that go along with the hard job of being a parent.

There are a lot of different perspectives in parenting and New Orleans Mom is a place where these different ideas can be shared. We strive to provide not just valuable information to mothers across the Crescent City, but also ideas about how to think about the issues in their lives.

In our Perspectives in Parenting section, you’ll find lots of stories about the everyday events, problems, annoyances, and issues that we all face as moms. We talk about the household and the challenges of keeping everyone in the family working together.  We offer tips on how to recognize and reflect on the good things in our lives. We also tackle difficult topics about our society and culture

Some of our perspectives in parenting stories offer key advice on wellness. We take you through some of the challenging parts of motherhood, like how and when to use a breast pump, while also offering an amusing look at alternative uses of breastmilk

Our writers talk about important things that Moms in the Big Easy need to know, such as how to teach financial responsibility to your children or how to survive the stresses of the holiday season.

With more than 30 contributors to New Orleans Mom, we offer our readers unique Big Easy perspectives in parenting that they won’t find anywhere else.

Dear Nursery Teacher, The other day I asked my two-year-old, “Who loves you?” to which she responded, “Mommy!” and then “Daddy!” I then asked her, “Who else?” expecting to hear her say any of her cousins or grandparents. Instead, she shouted...
2009 was the most epic Mardi Gras ever. I was a carefree college student, and living in a prime location at the time — walking distance to Superior Grill, the Streetcar line, and the Columns Hotel. It was also...

I remember my life before Adrian - huddled in corners of small hospital rooms, scribbling notes down on a coffee-stained scrap of paper I found in the garbage. Ask, listen, palpate, percuss. Repeat. The attending physician would glide into...
I often laugh at my boss as she writes her entire life out neatly in her planner, detailed down to the hour. Her laundry starts on time, she’s got dinner on the table by 5:45, kids are where they...
Hey, girl. How you doin’? Christmas shopping, amiright? Anyway. We saw you. Me, my friends, the ladies in back, all of us. Not gonna lie, our “sports attention” was a little divided this past weekend, and we’ve already told that...
It’s that time. Red, White and Blue everything. BBQ’s, hot dogs and pool parties. As a kid, all I remembered was hamburgers and fireworks on that day. As an adult, I don’t celebrate the 4th of July. Matter of...
I’ve been thinking about what it means to be a father a lot lately. Of course, this is not the first time I thought about it as these thoughts have been on my mind most of my life, as...
This might sound a little weird and even a little off for some but there have been a few good things coming out with this social distancing thing. Don’t get me wrong, I miss my alone time SO MUCH,...
If you are like me and watched Miley Cyrus’ “performance” on the Video Music Awards, you cringed inside at the thought of being a mother to a daughter. While watching the performance, I was thinking about her poor mother...
Show and Tell can turn malicious very quickly, especially when teens and mobile phones are involved. The heightened use of smartphones and quick-share apps like Snapchat, and the frequency of taking, texting, and posting images and videos have created...
