Every year I get excited when spring rolls around again, looking forward to warm summer days coming soon. Pool days, beach vacations, and lots of fun in the sun.
However, that usually comes with summer clothing which includes shopping for new bathing suits each year. Even though I try to stay in decent shape, there is something “extra” about placing your mom body into a bathing suit for others to see. No matter what your figure or personal situation is, it’s important that you maintain as active of a lifestyle as you can with your children. Get in the waves, build the sandcastles, play beach volleyball. And most importantly, get in the pictures!
All that being said, I wanted to find a few select mom-approved bathing suits (for real people) that feature different styles and cuts. Like all great research, I turned to my social media friends to get the goods! My suggestion is to choose one body part that you like (or are even OK with) and emphasize that area while de-emphasizing another area. The great news is that one-pieces are very in-style now, so you’re likely to find a style that you feel great in!
Great Shoulders? Try a halter cut or X neckline
Long Legs? Consider higher cut legs
Long Torso? Consider a two-piece in a bikini or athletic cut
Great Tatas? A slight plunge or V-neck might be for you
Some cool additional options include suits with rash guards built in, which elongate the look and allow for better sun protection! Or consider a suit with tummy control for that extra help.
Here are some suggested summer suits from real moms:
- SummerSalt has some very flattering cuts, with my favorite being The Perfect Wrap One-Piece and The Side Stroke (one shoulder). There are about five or six styles in one-piece options that come in multiple color and print options. They also have two-pieces, of which the Marina is my favorite. Pricing $95-$100.
- An Amazon Special called the Charmo Tummy Control One Piece has a ruched front, cute detail on straps, full coverage, and a bit more opening in the back. Comes in a variety of colors and is less than $40!
- The Cupshe X Iskra Reverie Land Underwire Tummy Control has detailed cups and princess seams in the front for a flattering look. Comes in black or blue. Also less than $40!
- The Hilor Women’s One Piece is also on Amazon, featuring the X style neck and multiple color variations. There is a minimal sheer section in the middle with a “belt look” that is very flattering. This suit comes in various prints (leopard, palm leaves) and solid colors (my favorite are black and maroon. Under $40.
- The Amazon Eomenie One Piece comes in a variety of colors. The V-neck is flattering, there is a higher placement tummy cut-out, and full bottom coverage. My friend says it’s even more flattering in person! Amazon is winning the under $40 suits!
- One mom suggests purchasing a bottom from June Loop and switching up your tops. These bottoms come in a variety of styles including shorts, skirts, high-waisted, and mid-rise. For on Sale bottoms, about $20-$40; Full Price bottoms $58
- Kortni Jean offers mix and match styles with boy-shorts style bottoms and a variety of tops. Their suits are two-piece, but offer full coverage similar to a tankini look but with swing tops and a mix of styles. Price is about $40 per piece.
- The J Crew One-Shoulder comes in stripes and solids and features a ruched waist. These are currently on sale for $60 – $80 depending on color selected.
- Calia Brand at Dick’s Sporting Goods offers a bunch of options from long sleeve to sporty, to one-shoulder and bikini. I have heard great reviews and may try one of these next! Prices range from $18 – $50 per piece, with many items on sale.
- For best sun coverage, consider the Old Navy Rash Guard with long sleeves and a half-zip front. This very simple design would be great for fair skin or those wanting more body coverage. Comes in three colors and is on sale currently. Regular $60 but reduced to $35.99.
Rachel, you should order some of these suits and model them!!!
