Unpopular Opinion: I Did Not Enjoy the Famous Savannah Bananas Baseball Game

Let me start off by saying we are a baseball family. My 12 year old son plays travel baseball, playground baseball, and his school’s baseball team. Most days in the spring, we are either watching a baseball game or taking him to baseball practice.

So of course, when the time came for us to enter our names to be able even attempt to get Savannah Bananas tickets, we all entered. I even had family members enter for us in hopes of even being able to enter the lottery to purchase tickets. I felt like I was trying to get tickets to the Eras tour.

While I am really grateful we were able to purchase tickets last year, this time around, I only entered myself into the lottery.

I really wanted to love it because of the sold-out crowd, the viral videos, and the way people talked about it like it was the most fun you could possibly have at a baseball game. Let me be clear, I am not saying they aren’t impressive or talented. On top of being talented baseball players, they are skilled dancers, comedians, and talented show stoppers. But my eyes never knew which way to look.

There was never a quiet moment, even the hour leading up to it. The crowd at the entrance was packed shoulder to shoulder, trying to see the pregame show and even when trying to get in. The souvenirs were the same way. There were many lines and tents to purchase items, but it was like rush hour. Picture Canal St. during Endymion.

The game itself was hard to process, with dancing on the pitcher’s mound, dancing at the plate, dancing on top of the dug out (while filming TikToks at the dugout). It was all too much for my brain to process.

Look, I’m not saying that they didn’t deliver what is seen online. I just wasn’t expecting constant noise and entertainment on top of entertainment. Besides the loud music, the MC and the crowd, we tried to watch a live baseball game. The baseball was essentially background noise because everything else overpowered it. My senses were in complete overload, as was my oldest son’s. We ended up spending the last half of the game in the club house decompressing.

Needless to say, my 12 year old baseball player absolutely loved it. Saying sports are his life is an understatement. He is loud, busy, and always needs to be entertained so this was definitely up his alley. Would I go again?  Of COURSE, but only if my son wanted to. Because at the end of the day, this wasn’t for me, it was for my son. I would do anything for him, but next time … I will bring air pods and my kindle.

Best of luck if you are lucky enough to be in the lottery!
