Strawberry Season at Mrs. Heather’s Farm
Spring is here, and the weather has been amazing! We took a drive to Mrs. Heather’s Strawberry Farm in Albany, Louisiana (about a 40 minute drive from Mandeville). Mrs. Heather, also known for her pumpkin patch, is open 9-5 every day of the week, from mid-March to mid-May.
The strawberry farm has three large areas where families can walk between the rows to find the juiciest, reddest berries. They are so sweet and ripe; we had a great time seeing who could find the best ones! (Pro tip: head to the farthest planting area behind the restroom building where less people travel!)
There are two bucket sizes available: a small bucket for $10 and a large bucket for $20. My kids eat a ton of fruit, so we opted for one of each. Then you can sit under one of the covered awnings and taste your bounty.
A large play area offers lots of space to run free, including a slide, swings, a jumpy, pretend cow with utters, and chickens to watch. There are several photo opps set up across the property as well. Mrs. Heather’s sells strawberry products and other goodies at their booth, and face-painting is sometimes available.
Strawberry-Picking Tips:
- Pack a cooler with water and leave it in your trunk for all the thirsty ones when you get back to your car.
- Bring older shoes or rain boots as the planting rows can be a bit muddy
- Baby wipes are great for wiping sticky mouths (these berries are juicy!)
- Stop in Hammond on your way home to eat pizza at Tommy’s on Thomas
