Stop Domestic Violence: The Real Superheroes of Safe Harbor Gala

Stop Domestic Violence: The Real Superheroes of Safe Harbor Gala

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), “on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.1” Locally, 35.9% of Louisiana women and 35.2% of Louisiana men experience intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes.

So, what can you do about it? How can you help?

Check out Safe Harbor — and attend our biggest fundraising event: The Real Superheroes of Safe Harbor Gala.

Safe Harbor is a non-profit, non-government agency in St. Tammany Parish serving survivors and their minor children who are victims of domestic abuse. Helping both men and women, this domestic violence program is available 24/7, confidential, and entirely free, no matter your income. Some, but not all, of the services provided include:

  • basic needs such as shelter, food, clothing
  • financial assistance
  • transportation for shelter, court hearings, employment, etc.
  • child advocacy
  • child care
  • legal advocacy
  • assistance in finding medical care/meeting medical needs
  • relocation assistance
  • employment assistance
  • navigating social services

…and much, much more! While we accept donations 24/7, what I really want to share with everyone is our fundraising gala, The Real Superheroes of Safe Harbor. It will take place on September 16, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. in the Harbor Center in Slidell. This year, our eleven candidates (nominated and chosen by Safe Harbor’s board members) will work hard to increase both awareness and financial support of victims of domestic violence. The candidate who raises the most money will be named the Real Superhero of Safe Harbor at the end night!

Consider yourself invited! General admission tickets are $100 in advance or $125 at the door. If you’d like to reserve a table, please check out our sponsorship packages. Admission includes live music, catered dinner, an open bar, surprise performances, dancing, and both silent and live auctions. While cocktail attire is requested, your favorite superhero costume is 100% encouraged as well!

Keep in mind — these local candidates are in a friendly (but real) competition with one another. They come from all over Louisiana, not just the Northshore! While I won’t be naming specific candidates in this post in the name of fairness, please check them out — you might recognize someone!

You can visit our website and vote (donate) in each candidate’s name as many times as you want — the more you vote, the more likely your candidate of choice will win, and more financial support is provided for Safe Harbor. No amount is too small; we appreciate any and all donations!

We hope to see y’all there on September 16th at the Harbor Center in Slidell for a fun night full of dancing, good food and good drinks — all for an amazing cause that literally provides life-saving services every single day. We couldn’t do this without you!

Cailin Allain
Cailin was born in Metairie, but moved to Slidell at five years old and never left! She is now raising her three daughters, Genevieve (Evie, 5, highly intelligent, brutally honest, hysterical), Josephine (Jo, 4, intuitive, brilliant, fiery), and Bernadette (Bettye, 2, smarty pants, no sense of fear, doesn’t believe in rules), with her husband, Andy (her favorite human), in Olde Towne Slidell. Cailin received her bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and a minor in Political Science from LSU, and her J.D./D.C.L from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU Law. She has her own practice, Law Office of Cailin K. Allain, LLC, and is currently navigating the ins and outs of expanding her business while working from home. When she’s not working, raising babies, or dancing in the kitchen with her husband, you can find her curled up in bed with a good book/comfort movie, some chocolate, and hot tea. On the weekends, Cailin enjoys going to concerts and comedy shows with her husband and any one (or all!) of her six siblings, and hanging out with her in-laws in Bay St. Louis.
