Disclosure: ALG Style is a sponsor of New Orleans Moms Blog, but if you like to save money while staying on trend OR if you want to win a personal outfitting session of your own, you won’t want to miss this post!
It’s that time of year again: time to swap those sweaters, skinny jeans and riding boots in your closet for sundresses, tank tops and flip flops. Well, for many women, anyway… Anyone who knows me, on the other hand, will admit that I’m chronically underd-ressed and that I typically prefer the “fashions” in the athletic department to those found in the sections for those lucky women who know how to dress themselves.
Despite my best intentions, my shopping trips are almost always unsuccessful, and I come home with more of the same frumpy, unflattering clothes already lining my closets. I wanted this year to be different, though, because my husband booked us a trip to Maui for our 10 year wedding anniversary! With that in mind, I jumped at the opportunity to go shopping (on a budget) with our friends Aimeé and Corrie at ALG Style. As usual, they were simply amazing to work with! Their talents at finding clothes to fit one’s lifestyle while still looking fantastic are unparalleled.
You CAN Look Fashionable on a Tight Budget
It turns out that ALG can work its magic on a budget, too. Our first stop was TJ Maxx (yes, you read that correctly), where Aimeé and Corrie jumped right in, matching items I never would have thought to pair up to create looks I never thought I could pull off!
Special note :: Not only is ALG Style offering 15% off of their services from now until Mother’s Day (that goes for gift cards too, gentlemen…), but they’re also giving you a chance to WIN a shopping trip with them at the bottom of this post!
You can rock yoga pants :: I was particularly happy that they were able to help me develop casual “yoga pant” styles that still look chic…
These black yoga pants paired with a colorful top and accenting scarf are a great way to look good at drop-off in the mornings and still be comfortable chasing the kids around the park after school! WIN!
Shorts aren’t just for small girls :: And, I just love this ensemble. I’ve been self conscious about wearing shorts for at least a decade. Not my thing. I always thought that if you weren’t a size 6 or smaller, you were too big for shorts. But Aimeé and Corrie showed me how to find the right shorts to fit your body type. I think that this summer just got a whole lot cooler.
I also love how they paired the different colors. Notice: Purple shorts, yellow bag and green shoes! WHAT?! I love it and I couldn’t have put it together without them. I don’t know why it works, but it does! Thank you, ladies!
You dig the Jackie O or Kate Middleton look? They can do that on a budget, too :: I have to say, I love this look! I feel like Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O all at once.
Again, I never would have chosen this dress because I would have thought that it was too short. I love the shape of it, the pop of color from the shoes, the hat and even the sunglasses! This is also my husband’s favorite.
Prefer long dresses? Rock the maxi :: I love maxi dresses; their casual-dressy look is perfect for pretty much everything. I especially like this one because it’s chevron-ish, but not chevron.
I never would even have tried this one on because I would have been scared away by the horizontal stripes. Luckily I had ALG with me to fix my thinking. I also like the pop of color from the bag. I think this is all starting to make sense to me now!
It’s okay to stay in your comfort zone :: It’s no secret at this point, that I tend to like my lower half covered. This dress makes me feel so good.
I love how the detail is at the top and that the bottom is a solid dark color. I feel thin and sufficiently covered. I can see myself living in this dress. Maybe I should have bought 2!
After finishing up at TJ Maxx, we continued our budget-conscious theme and headed over to Old Navy. It was there that I discovered the joy of a jean jacket. Having never owned one, I never knew what I was missing. I’ve spent my days trying to avoid the whole Denim Tuxedo look; for whatever reason I thought that they were bad fashion. Once again, wrong. It turns out this little baby can accompany most any of the dresses I bought! What?! Awesome!
Now, as I prepare for my long awaited trip to Hawaii, I’ll be going with a new found sense of style. Not only did I have a blast working with these fabulous ladies, but I now get to head off into the sunset with the love of my life and actually feel good about what I’m wearing! No more getting dressed in the dark for me. I’ve struggled so much to find the right way to dress. No, I’m not a college girl anymore, but I’m also still young. Finding an appropriate way to dress feels great, and I thank ALG for helping me get there.
If you’re like me and you too are struggling to find your own fashion sense, you’re in luck!
With my shopping, I tend to do both. I like to have a good collection of basic, classic pieces, but I also like trendy stuff as well!
Basics usually with basic trends haha
I do a little bit of both 🙂
Basics.
I tend to go looking for peices I need at the moment. If I happen to find something “trendy” while in the process it’s a plus! Mainly just basics though. 🙂
