Why I Tribe :: Working on My Fitness Goals

I have been on quite a journey with my weight loss. I’m in the starting process of getting bariatric surgery, but as I muster up the strength to actually go through with it, I’ve been hitting the gym. Not the average gym, but rather a 45-minute high-impact community fitness gym. What gym is that, you may ask? Oh well, let me tell you, it’s Iron Tribe Fitness.

Why I Tribe

I’ve been in an on again, off again relationship with Iron Tribe for a while, but that is a story for another day. But why do I go to such a really intense place to work out when I have all the other resources and tools? It’s fun, but after a while, it becomes addictive. The feeling of finishing a workout at Iron Tribe is amazing. The workouts can be challenging, but the main thing is that no matter the score, I finished within the allotted amount of time. And with consistency, I will be able to process and achieve the goals that I have set for myself there.

They don’t call it a tribe for nothing

The main reason I keep going back to the Tribe is exactly that, the TRIBE. From the coaches down to every member at that gym, you can feel a sense of community. If you can not do any of the movements, the coaches will find a way to make that movement work for you. While the end goal is to finish the workout, everyone is at their own level and pace. With the support of the other members cheering you on, their support drives you to want to finish before the bell rings. During one workout, we had a 400-meter run, and I’m not a runner, but I’ve had a goal to run at least a mile nonstop. I’m still working on that, but during the run, it was my last round. Everyone else had already finished. One of the members came out to meet me as I was taking what felt like the longest run ever in my life. She came next to me and motivated me to keep running and not stop. I was able to finish just as the buzzer rang, and the rest of the class high-fived with good jobs and well dones. If it were not for that extra push, I’d probably still be out there running today (lol). But that helped build my confidence to this day.

Iron Tribe has changed my life. I love going there. Just 45 minutes to not have to think about the outside world, and focus on my goals with a community that has the same mindset, is awesome. The coaches notice if I’m not there and send a text looking or checking up on me, and that makes me feel like I belong. I’m not just a number or transaction there. I feel a part of something, and I’m able to accomplish my goals one step at a time.
