My Hypnotherapy Journey :: Getting to the Root of Myself
Around the time when I first had my daughter, I was all over the place. Adjusting to being a new mom, battling post-partum, weight gain, and getting back into work, it was a lot and mentally I was breaking.
What made me do this?
I had a colleague mention that she earned her license in Hypnotherapy and holistic healing on Facebook. We knew each other well through our time in college and stayed connected through social media, so I thought this would be a good opportunity. I wanted to support her new business, I would also benefit from it, and she was having a sale. So why not try? I’m always open to trying new things anyway.
So why did you contact me?
As the time came for my appointment, I was on the verge of backing out because I just did not know what to expect. I was nervous, but very curious. I have not had much luck with therapists as I just didn’t feel any connection with them, but I’m still on the hunt for the perfect match.
As we logged onto our virtual call, it was like we were back in the yard talking and laughing quickly catching up before we went to business. So, she eased her way into why I wanted to do hypnotherapy. I expressed that my main goal was to be happy and healthy, to be present for my daughter, and I believed that, for me, the main thing that bothered me was my weight. I’m an emotional eater and find comfort in sweets. I figured that could be my first step to emotional healing.
Understanding the Blockage
To begin, she had me close my eyes and listen to her prompts. I was connecting with my inner / younger self. I was still aware, but I was deep into finding what was holding me back from being a better healthier me. I learned that past trauma could lead to what I was battling and that I just needed to tap into it and learn. We even did role-playing while still in my subconscious mind. I had conversations with my parents, my inner child, and even affirmations to instill in me. It was eye-opening.
Getting Hypnotized
After discovering the root of my blockage, we transitioned into the hypnotizing portion. She started to record so that I could listen at night before bed or any time. This whole part allowed my subconscious mind to hear words of affirmation that would allow me to shift the bad thoughts into positive ones. The outcome was good, but for it to work, you must listen to the recording for at least 30 days for it to effect. I found myself wanting more fruit and vegetables over sweets while finding ways to stay active.
I recommend hypnotherapy to anyone thinking about trying; you will learn new things about yourself that you didn’t think you would know.
