The Ultimate Bunny Bait Recipe

It is tax season in my neck of the woods, and this year in my department, we have implemented a “snack corner.” It resides in an empty cubical outside of my office and  contains a variety of deliciously unhealthy food choices that are meant to sooth the souls of the weary accountants with whom I spend my not-so-free time. We have been keeping it well stocked, but by the end of the day this past Saturday, it was looking about as tired as most of us.

bunny bait2My daughter Jane is at that perfect age where she really enjoys being my helper. Since I spent most of Saturday in the office, I wanted to make sure she and I did something special together Sunday. What’s better for bonding than some mother-daughter time in the kitchen. I told her I needed help with a surprise project for my colleagues, and she was very intrigued. I wanted to make something yummy for our snack corner and needed her help deciding what to make. We put our heads together (literally) and scrolled through Pinterest looking for Easter snack inspiration. We came upon some bunny bait recipes and liked several, but she would always find a missing ingredient that she wanted to add. So we got out a pen and some paper and made a list of ingredients that would go together to make the ULTIMATE bunny bait.  Here is what we came up with. I hope you enjoy!

The New Orleans Moms Blog Ultimate Bunny Bait Recipe

  • Three cups Corn Chex Cereal
  • Two cups Cheerios
  • One cup butter snap pretzels (we thought the butter would add to the flavor)
  • One bag butter popcorn, popped (unsalted would also work, but the sweet/salty factor would not be as good without the butter)
  • One bag peanut M&Ms (any flavor will do, but these are our favorite)
  • One tube of pastel sprinkles
  • Two bags of Nestle white chocolate chips

  1. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl stir together the Chex cereal, Cheerios, pretzels, and half of the sprinkles. Melt one bag of white chocolate chips in a microwavable bowl for twenty second increments (stirring between each) until completed melted. Pour over cereal mixture. Once thoroughly combined, pour the mixture onto one baking sheet to cool.
  3. In the same large mixing bowl stir together popcorn, M&Ms, and the remaining sprinkles. Melt the second bag of chips and pour over the popcorn mixture. Once well coated, pour the mixture on the other baking sheet to cool.
  4. After both mixtures have cooled completely, combine them.

Now bring this stuff to your office (or neighbors) as soon as possible or you will consume it all!
