The Northshore’s Newest Obsession :: Sons Bakehouse in Mandeville
Over the weekend, I saw a post in a local moms group on Facebook about a new place called Sons Bakehouse that had recently opened in Mandeville. The photos from the post were mouthwatering and I made a mental note to stop by sometime soon. Not two hours later, my cousin posted on Instagram that she’d visited and gave it a 10/10. Her photos looked incredible and I knew I was going to have to try it sooner than later, so I convinced my husband we should go that afternoon!
Located on N. Causeway Boulevard in Mandeville (in the former Prima Après spot), Sons Bakehouse is a family-run bakery that makes everything in-house. The husband and wife owners, Gabi and Luke, met in college in Florida and have brought their years of experience in the food industry to Mandeville, Luke’s hometown. They named the bakery for their two young sons, whose sweet little likenesses are seen on the backs of the staff’s shirts.
During our visit, one side of their counter had beautifully golden brown loaves of bread and a ham and Swiss sandwich on their homemade French baguette. But what caught my eye were their savory tarts called “Flakeys” that were picture-perfect but somehow tasted even better. I had the Mushroom, Caramelized Onion & Truffle Oil Flakey, but the Potato, Brie & Chive Flakey and the Tomato, Feta & Dill Flakey looked just as delicious and I’m excited to try those on our next visit.
The other side of the counter boasted desserts & pastries like slices of rich Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, thin & crispy chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls piled high with frosting, and Nutella buns still warm from the oven. You really couldn’t go wrong with anything — and everything goes great with the Cherrybomb coffee they brew in-house.
To ensure the highest quality, Sons Bakehouse makes everything in small batches using locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients. (Something to keep in mind if your favorite menu item ever goes missing — though it will surely be replaced by something just as delicious!) While we were there enjoying our food, multiple customers came in specifically asking for the country sourdough bread, which is their biggest seller. Unfortunately, we were too late in the day to snag a loaf — all the more reason to get there early next time! To see what deliciousness they’re dreaming up, be sure to follow them on Instagram.
