Why Abby Jimenez Should Be Your Next Author Obsession
I love book recommendations. I set a reading goal each year for myself and go down rabbit holes on Goodreads and Google of what I should read next. I like all sorts of genres, but hate to judge a book by its cover, so I try and read some reviews and opinions from real people before I give (or don’t give) a book a chance.
A Trusted Recommendation
A few months ago I stumbled across Abby Jimenez. I first heard about her books on Goodreads, but right around the same time, my goddaughter started sending me her books to add to my TBR list as well. I figured if someone I trusted as much as my goddaughter liked them, I couldn’t go wrong.
I’m glad I listened, because she’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. Her stories are easy to read, funny, and leave you wanting more, which is good, because a lot of her books are series. She also writes about a lot of relatable topics; anxiety, grief, and fertility.
My goddaughter likes them because she likes the way Abby incorporates mental illness, and normal grieving, in a normal, non-judgmental way. Abby does a great job of not over-exaggerating anything or making the other characters so over the top when reacting to it.
Her books are just the right about of ups and downs of emotions. She pulls you in with relatable topics, but mixes in humor and lightheartedness to not be so overwhelming. Also, if you’re not a fan of “spicy” romance (like my goddaughter lol), her books are pretty tame. She may have a scene or two, but it’s not taking over the whole book. A lot of the time, it’s more of a sweet vs “spicy” scene too.
She’s Relatable

According to her Wikipedia page, she got into writing after a camping trip where she told her children a story and decided to write a novel. She was originally writing a YA novel, but trashed it and eventually wrote her debut novel The Friend Zone. I love this. I feel like as moms, we can all relate to moments like this. We do something for our kids and are like “Can I do this as a job?”
She’s also a girl after my own heart. I love to bake (and eat) sweets! The first two books I read, she mentioned Nadia Cakes. I thought it sounded familiar, but assumed it was just a made up bakery that sounded like a real bakery. Nope! Abby Jimenez was actually a Food Network Star and won Cupcake Wars back in 2013 and her bakery is Nadia Bakes. I was obsessed with that show and had my own dreams of becoming a Food Network Star. She’s literally living two of my dreams: baking and writing!
Definite Travel Reads
Her books are great companions on any kind of travel. You can get lost in them on a beach, or on a plane. They’re just long enough to have a good story, but short enough that you can finish them on a quick vacation (and when we’re dealing with kids and family, who doesn’t want that).
Her books appeal to a variety of ages too. My goddaughter is 23 and I’m 40, and we can both relate to these books. So, whether you’re a seasoned reader looking for a new author, or you’re looking for a reason to get back into reading, Abby Jimenez’s books are a definite must read.
