I Tried It So You Don’t Have To: Frownies Edition

Alright, if you’ve ever had a poster of Legolas hanging in your bedroom or a crush on a member of Hanson, then it’s time to consider what’s important to you when it comes to skin care.

If you’re an au naturel kind of woman, we love to see it! Aging gracefully seems to go hand-in-hand with accepting the changes that come with the journey. If you are a firm believer in the power of botox, get it girly! Confidence looks beautiful on you.

However, if lines, creases, and wrinkles bother you the same way they bother me, and botox isn’t for you, then listen up — I tried Frownies!

While I am self-conscious about the lines on my forehead, I am just not a botox, injection type of person. I prefer a more holistic approach to anything I use on or put inside of my body. So, fresh after my thirty-second birthday, I found myself down a rabbit hole on the internet, trying to find “natural” approaches to smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles that had seemingly, overnight, made a home on my face.

That’s when I found Frownies.

The reviews seemed mixed–a three and half to a four star rating across multiple platforms was the general consensus. The good reviews were really good, and the bad reviews were neutral. If the Frownies didn’t work, nothing bad happened–the lines and wrinkles just didn’t go away for those customers. So what did I have to lose giving these weird, triangular shaped wrinkle patches a try?

Fast-forward about a year and a half and I swear by them!

Frownies makes all kinds of different patches — some for crows’ feet, some for forehead lines, some neck creases, mouth creases, etc. The spot I am most self-conscious about is my forehead, so I used the forehead patches. I will admit, at first, I had no idea what I was doing when applying Frownies. It takes practice to understand how they work and how many you need in a specific spot on your face.

It is important to follow the instructions that come with the patches. I use Frownies’ Rose Spray to wet the patches to make them sticky, but water works just as well. I find the Rose Spray to be super-hydrating, so I stuck with that. After you wash and moisturize your face, let your moisturizer soak into your skin for at least fifteen minutes before applying your Frownies. I like to carefully separate each patch from the other along the perforated lines before I get my hands wet; otherwise, the patches stick to your fingers and it becomes very difficult to apply one at a time. You may not know how many patches you need at first–that’s okay. They stick on top of one another just fine and peel off easily if you need to remove them.

Once you’ve got your patches separated, gently apply one to two pumps of the rose spray (or a small amount of water) on the sticky side of the patch. Once the patch begins to curl just a bit in your hand (this happens quickly), it’s time to apply to your face. If the patch isn’t curling in your hand, apply a bit more water or rose spray.

To apply to your face, gently smooth out the lines with one hand softly press the patch on with the other. Since the spot I use them is my forehead, I gently tug my forehead upwards from my hairline and apply the patches by lightly tapping along the edges of the patch until it lies flat and sticks to my skin. Slightly overlapping the patches is encouraged, as they work better and the skin hold tighter this way. If done correctly, the patches all peel off together at the same time when it’s time to remove them. Here’s a very cute picture of me for your learning purposes:

I sleep with Frownies on for maximum results, as that is the longest amount of time I have to keep them on, however, Frownies states that leaving them on for 3-4 hours is also effective. The patches work by relaxing the muscles and holding them still, kind of like a splint. This helps smooth out those wrinkles and lines and prevents new ones from forming.

Oh, and they seem to work no matter what “type” of patches they are! I accidentally ordered the wrong Frownies — the facial patches for corners of eyes and mouth instead of the forehead ones — and they still worked just fine on my forehead! I only had to use more of them as they were a bit smaller than the forehead specific ones.

Now, onto the results.

At first, you’re not going to notice must change with the patches. You’re going to have to consistently wear them every night (or day) for about a month before you notice significant change. Eventually, though, you won’t have to wear them every night to see results and for those results to keep. I prefer to wear mine nearly every night, as I show a lot of emotion on my face, especially with my eyebrows. So these lines aren’t going anywhere if I don’t actively do something about it! But occasionally I do go a while without Frownies, and I find that it takes about a week before I start feeling like I need to wear them again.

However, your results truly depend on how often, how long, and how consistently you wear the patches. If you have very deep set lines, it may take longer for you to see results than it does for someone else with lighter creases. But if you stick to the plan, then you will see results!

Here’s to healthy, happy skin!
