Family Friendly Breweries on the Northshore

The Northshore Brewery Guide Every Local Mom Needs

There’s something special happening on the Northshore brewery scene lately. Maybe it’s the live music, the groups hanging out at picnic tables, or simply the ease of sipping a locally crafted beer while your kids play nearby. Whatever it is, breweries on the Northshore have evolved into more than just places to grab a drink. They’ve become gathering spaces for families, friends and community events.

Family Friendly Breweries on the NorthshoreNew to the Northshore, I’m always looking for places that feel welcoming, relaxed, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone. Recently, I experienced that energy firsthand during my first live music concert at Chafunkta Brewing Company, and I get the hype now.

Chafunkta Brewing: Where Community Meets Craft Beer

If you’ve spent any time on the Northshore, chances are you’ve heard someone mention The Funk. Nestled in Mandeville, Chafunkta Brewing Company has built a reputation for being one of the most family-friendly breweries around, and after finally experiencing it for myself, I completely understand why.

I recently went to a live music night there with great people, incredible music, and some seriously good craft beer. The atmosphere immediately felt relaxing. It’s the kind of place where parents can unwind while kids run around in the open outdoor space. With music playing, delicious food truck grub, and the warm hospitality from bartender AND co-owner Jamie Erickson, a good time was definitely had. Jamie, a fellow mom, helps make the entire place feel welcoming and personal, alongside her husband and owner, Josh Erickson.

Daniel Merry, Director of Sales, Marketing, Events and Socials at Chafunkta, shared exactly what makes the brewery so special:

“What do I hope families feel when they come to Chafunkta? That they can finally relax! No matter the event, there’s a little something for everyone at the FUNK, but the heart of it is always the same: we’re family owned and operated, so family oriented is just who we are. Food trucks, live music, and award-winning craft beer? What’s better than that?”

That family-first atmosphere shines through in everything they do: from live concerts, run groups and trivia nights to nonprofit fundraisers and karaoke. It’s easy to see why so many locals make Chafunkta part of their weekly routine.

Highly recommend the Bayou Blaze and 985 (Meyer Lemon Wheat). Pairs well with crawfish and oysters! See their beer rating profile on Untapped.com.

Gnarly Barley: Laid-Back and Full of Personality

Another Northshore favorite worth checking out is Gnarly Barley Brewing Co. Known for its bold personality and creative brews, Gnarly Barley has become a staple for craft beer lovers across Louisiana.

Their outdoor spaces and casual atmosphere make it an easy spot to spend an afternoon with friends and family. Whether you’re trying one of their popular flagship beers or catching one of their local events, there’s always an energetic, fun vibe happening.

It’s also a great reminder that breweries today aren’t just for beer enthusiasts. They’ve become social hubs where community and creativity thrive.

Abita Brewing: A Louisiana Classic

Of course, no Northshore brewery list would be complete without Abita Brewing Company. As one of Louisiana’s most iconic breweries, Abita has been bringing people together for decades.

Their brewery tours remain a favorite local activity, especially for visitors wanting a true taste of Louisiana culture. With a wide variety of beers, root beer for the kids, and a beautiful setting, Abita continues to be a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike.

There’s a nostalgic charm to Abita Brewing Company that feels deeply rooted in Southern tradition, something you can experience at both their Covington brewery and New Orleans location.

More Than Beer

What I love most about these Northshore breweries is that they’re creating spaces where people can enjoy themed events while supporting nonprofits, small businesses and talented musicians. Places like ChaFUNKta, Gnarly Barley, and Abita serve up a relaxing atmosphere that moms can appreciate. Great music. Great people. Great beer. That sounds like a Northshore night done right to me.

Taste Them All At Larry Brew Fest
