The Anchor: Quick Drive for A Little Family Friendly Fun

It seems that just about every day someone asks us, “Is New Orleans kid friendly?” Absolutely! New Orleans Mom produces dozens of guides to enjoying New Orleans with kids year-round. If you are looking for a list of the very best restaurants in the New Orleans area for dining with kids, we have got you covered! One of our favorites is just a quick drive across the Causeway at The Anchor in Madisonville!

The Anchor: Quick Drive for A Little Family-Friendly Fun

Tired of the same handful of places where you as a parent can wind down with a cocktail but allow your kids to have fun as well? You know, parent time balance? Being a parent doesn’t mean you cannot have a fun meal with the kids. A fun drive up to the Northshore, with a gorgeous view of the Tchefuncte River, will bring you to The Anchor

The Anchor in Madisonville, LA

Located on the riverfront in Downtown Madisonville, The Anchor is the perfect backdrop for a wonderful meal and a good time. Most afternoons, there is live music to listen to with great drink deals, and the view while you eat is so relaxing.

The best part is that kids have a place to have some fun. A large playground area is set up with an enclosed fenced with only one entrance and exit). It is divided into a jungle gym on one side with monkey bars and slides. The other play set is a large pirate ship that older kids can have fun exploring and imagining they are pirates on the high seas. The playground can accommodate toddlers to larger children. Great age range. Want to bring the fur babies? The Anchor is open-aired so it has lots of room with shade that can accommodate fur babies as well as human babies.

The cocktail menu has lots of options with some delicious frozen concoctions that are sure to satisfy on a hot Louisiana summer day. My favorites are the Frose and the Frozen Mint Julep. The food is also delicious. Start with the Smoked Salmon dip or the Crispy Boudin Egg Rolls. For entrees, the Crispy Redfish Platter is a great choice or you can’t go wrong with the Boathouse Burger.
