New in Lakeview :: Juliana’s Brazilian Bakery

New in Lakeview :: Juliana’s Brazilian Bakery

Last week, while my oldest was at baseball practice, I took my youngest, my foodie, on a school night date to the soft opening of Juliana’s Brazilian Bakery in Lakeview. It did not disappoint!

An Adorable Atmosphere

My first impression was that the atmosphere and dècor were perfect. I loved the floral nods, and the soft pink and green hues complemented the many bright colors of the baked goods in the pastry cases. The staff were very friendly. They sensed we were not familiar with Brazilian pastries and didn’t hesitate to educate us and make some stellar recommendations. Juliana’s would be a great post-date stop or fun to swing by for an after school treat with the kids. It’s a cozy space, so when it gets busy, I expect some crowding. But trust me, the line will be worth the wait.

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

They offer a wide variety of brigadeiros, traditional Brazilian sweets. These tiny, squishy treats are packed with flavor and remind me of a truffle without the hard shell. We sampled the strawberry and Nutella flavors, both totally different but both totally delicious. Juliana’s also offers different cakes by the slice, macarons, cupcakes, flans, and mousses. We sampled the lemon mousse, which was so decadent that I bought two more to take home to my husband and older son. It was a thicker mousse atop a layer of graham cracker crumbles and topped with meringue. Ice cold, the light, lemon flavor made the mousse the perfect summer dessert (though I’d definitely eat it year-round).

Looking For Something Savory?

Juliana’s is a great spot to stop for lunch or a quick dinner. They offer empanadas, stuffed breads, pizzas, sandwiches, and more! We opted for the esfihas, hand-sized Brazilian flat bread with meat or cheese. It resembles a pizza, but I found the cheese more flavorful and the crust flakier. Priced at two for $5, why would I skip it? When I come back, I plan to try the ham and cheese empanada, which a fellow customer said was excellent.

A Busy Mom’s Dream: The Heat and Eat Selection

Maybe even better than all that? There are three full freezers of savory delights for you to heat and eat at home. These would be great to have on hand to just throw in the oven or air fryer on a busy weeknight, say after a long day at work or a late sports practice. They would also be perfect hors d’oeuvres to pop in the oven the morning of a birthday party or baby shower.

Location and Hours

Juliana’s Brazilian Bakery is located in Lakeview at 203 West Harrison Avenue, across from The Backyard. Parking is limited. I recommend parking in the street. The bakery is set back, and parking spaces are deep, so several cars were blocked in by other cars. I got blocked in and had to find the person who blocked my exit, so for this reason, I will not park in the lot during future visits. As of this post, the bakery is open 9:00am-7:30pm everyday.

Go, and go hungry. Make it a meal. Let me know your faves in the comments!
