Thank You Drew!

I can remember after Katrina like it was yesterday. The city was down on its knees and needed something, someone to bring us back.

The Saints have always been a huge part of our city. I remember the Dome Patrol and Bless you Boys. But this game, the first game back in the Superdome since our city was completely devastated was just … different.

The city needed you, just like I think you needed us. You were broken, repaired, just like New Orleans. We are a different kind of place, we welcome everyone with open arms. We are kind and friendly, just like you and your family we would soon find out. You picked us up and brought us back. The blocked punt by Steve Gleason was the loudest I had ever heard the dome, and there was not a dry eye in the place. It was a rebirth like no other.

You have broken records, over and over, you gave us our first, and only, Super Bowl win. Your love for our city is pure and genuine. Over the past 15 years, I have enjoyed watching you play for our team; you have brought more to this city than you will ever know.

It is really mind blowing to me that I may have seen you play in the Superdome for the last time. I had no idea it would be your last game when the Dome was packed last year and there was no mention of a global pandemic. We all thought we would be back in the Dome, cheering as loud as we could for our boys in black and gold. But you got robbed … you got robbed of the amazing send off the Saints fans wanted to give to you.

You said it best, “If you love New Orleans, she will love you back.” And we do. We love you for all you have given us. Some say it is just football, but not to us.

Thank you Drew, for everything.
