Laser Skin Resurfacing {Sponsored Post and Giveaway from Dr. Kevin R. Kirchner}

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post brought to you by Dr. Kevin Kirchner. As usual, we prefer to post about brands, companies and services that we have personally tried. Today Amanda writes about her experiences receiving a laser skin resurfacing treatment … and we are offering one to a lucky New Orleans Moms Blog reader (valued at $500)!

I am a self-proclaimed minimalist when it comes to my daily skincare and make-up regimen. I always have been. I’m not getting any younger, as they say, and since having children I have started to question my conservative ways. Although I did not get the “pregnancy mask,” I have a lot of freckles and they seemed to merge together in some placesIMG_8158 on my face. Or are they sun and/or age spots? Whatever the case, I’m sure many of you can relate that you have very little time or energy to devote to skincare and makeup. This is where the Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment comes in. I only wish I had known about this after I had my first child.

I remember in those early months feeling like I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror. I can also recall with particular clarity the first time I fixed my hair and applied makeup. I looked at myself in the mirror and thought “I know you!” I returned to work when Mark was 12 weeks so I had to throw some makeup on in the morning, but I felt as though I was having to apply more than before, what with all these darker spots! After I had Jack, I didn’t return to work in the traditional sense so now I rarely wear any makeup. Accordingly, I avoid mirrors most days. I was truly excited to try this procedure to see if it would improve my skin and provide the glow I so desire.

At the time of writing this post, I am 4 days post-op and currently the treated skin is peeling off, but I can already tell that my skin is tighter and the age/sun spots are disappearing. The Erbium laser treats fine lines, acne scars and sun damage by reaching the epidermis, the most outer layer of skin. Some women find that they need 2 or 3 Erbium laser treatments to achieve optimal results.

Erbium Skin Resurfacing Treatment

Dr. Kirchner’s incredibly welcoming and friendly staff will apply a topical analgesic to your face prior to the laser treatment. The procedure itself is not painful, and the numbing cream really goes a long way to ensure your comfort. There were only a couple of sensitive areas for me that I would describe as mild discomfort. The laser treatment lasted approximately 15 minutes. Because I could not see during the procedure due to the protective eye wear, Dr. Kirchner led me step-by-step through the entire process, making it an enjoyable experience.

Post-Op Care

The Erbium laser is not as deep as the Cortex laser (another option offered by Dr. Kirchner) and thus, the recovery time is much faster. A few hours after the procedure, my face felt wind burned. Again, not painful. Once that cleared up, my recovery has been relatively simple. Dr. Kirchner’s staff will liberally apply Aquaphor (a greasy lotion with a feeling kind of like Vaseline) after the treatment and you should keep some on hand for the days immediately following. I did not experience any swelling, but if it does occur you can use ice to reduce. For the first 48 hours I applied Aquaphor liberally. On day 3, my skin felt tight and slightly itchy but not unbearable and I maintained a thin layer of Aquaphor. On day 5, I will return to my normal skin care regimen.

  1. My skin care routine is simple – wash morning and night with my clarisonic mia and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Oh, and most importantly, daily sunscreen use.

    • Same here, except I can’t use the clarisonic that often as it tends to dry my skin out. But I am firm believer that moisturize is the key. Isn’t the humidity the reason southern women are so pretty??? Maybe not, but it’s what I’ve heard. 🙂

    • Thanks for your comment Lisa! Be sure to enter the contest. It would also make a great Birthday, Mother’s day or Holiday gift!

  2. My skin care routine is very simple. I should probably put more time into it and would have less “issues”. I wash and moisturize daily.

  3. I would love this for after my second child is born! I have always had skin problems, but they were exacerbated after my first child. Hopefully, the laser treatment would ensure a fresh start after the baby hormones go away!

    • Thanks for the comment Taylor! I hear wonderful things about Coco butter, but I have not personally used it other than to ward of stretch marks during pregnancy.

    • thanks for the comment Kristen! Good luck in the contest. Remember, this makes a wonderful birthday, mother’s day, holiday present as well 🙂
