5 Tips for Stress-Free Labor Day Travel
Contrary to its name, Labor Day is a day of no work and your travel during the busy weekend shouldn’t feel like that either. Travel through Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) stress-free this Labor Day with these five tips.
1. Make A Travel Plan. First thing first, have a plan. Having a plan will help ensure a smooth travel experience. Ask yourself these important questions – When should I be at the airport? How am I getting there? Do I need to reserve parking? Do I have all of my travel documents? Think through your entire travel journey from leaving home to getting on the plane.
Use resources like the airport website, your airline’s website or app, and the MyTSA app to help plan your arrival and journey through the airport.
2. Reserve Parking Online. Reserve parking in your preferred parking facility online at park.flymsy.com at least 24 hours in advance. Reservations are available in all four parking facilities – Short-Term, Long-Term, Surface Lot, and Economy.
If you do not have a reservation, be sure to check parking space availability on the airport’s website FlyMSY.com before traveling to the airport to save time. Valet parking is also available.
Save time and avoid the ticket counter when you park in the Economy Garage located near the former terminal at 900 Airline Drive. Free Baggage Check-In is available for American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Spirit Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines. Shuttles depart the garage frequently and your ride is guaranteed to take 15 minutes or less or passengers receive a voucher for 50 percent off parking fees.
3. Arrive Early. Arrive at least two hours before your scheduled departure and three hours early if you’re traveling internationally. Expect longer lines at the ticket counters and checkpoint during peak periods from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
During holiday weekends, larger crowds can be anticipated at the airport. For a smoother experience, consider packing a carry-on and skipping the ticket counter, use CLEAR and/or TSA Pre-Check for a quick trip through security, and order coffee on the Starbucks app before going through security and pick it up on the way to your gate.
4. Pack Smart. Know what can be packed in your carry-on and checked baggage by visiting tsa.gov. Follow the 3-1-1 rule for baggage brought through the checkpoint. Liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes are allowed in carry-on bags as long as each item is 3.4 ounces or less and placed in one quart-sized bag. Each passenger is limited to one quart-size bag. Avoid bringing prohibited items.
5. Need Assistance? Send the airport a message on X or Instagram @flyneworleans or @MSYAirport on Facebook Messenger (social media is monitored weekdays, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.). Call AVCOM 504-303-7500 for assistance 24/7.
For specific questions about the checkpoint, contact TSA by sending a text directly to 275-872 (“AskTSA”) on any mobile device or over social media by sending a message to @AskTSA on X or Facebook Messenger.
For information regarding your flight, contact your airline.
