I am a work at home mom, running my busy little business from my little home office most often clad in pjs. #wahmperks My day starts with coffee and the Today show. I’ve been a Today Show fan since I was young, back in the days of Katie Couric. Raise your hand if you still miss Katie.
On the Today show recently was a story about a father who was on a bike riding mission.
His goal: to visit as many of his daughter’s organ receivers as possible and to spread the message of how important it is to be an organ donor. Some organ receivers chose not to meet with the grieving father but the young man who received his daughter’s heart did agree. And this young man happens to live right here in Louisiana, in Baton Rouge. And I sobbed into my morning coffee as this grieving father connected with this grateful young man and listened to his daughter’s heartbeat. It was truly beautiful.
But what The Today show did not cover at all was how this man’s young daughter died. The Today show has always favored a good sob story so why did they not even mention how this young adult lost her life? Google did not turn up much until I stumbled upon this story from a local news source. Abbey Conner’s death is truly shocking and bizarre, and it occurred on what was supposed to be a fun family trip:
Does anyone else have dozens of more questions?
How is it possible that nobody saw anything at a pool next to a bar at a busy Mexican resort? Especially with security only 20 seconds away? How did two adult siblings, accomplished swimmers and no stranger to doing the things that young adults do, go from going to meet their parents for dinner to floating face down in a pool in just two hours? How did this family’s vacation turn into their eternal nightmare? And more importantly, how is this story not national news? With families, young adults and teenagers flocking to popular all-inclusive Mexican resorts for the ease and cost friendly vacation, coupled with other guests having similar reports, how is this not Natalee Holloway level news?
So I need my other obsession to step in. It is time for Keith Morrison and the Dateline crew to step in and solve this very disturbing mystery. Why are there more questions than answers for Abbey Conner? I cannot fathom the grief this family is enduring, but not having clear answers as to how Abbey lost her life has to be agonizing to her parents. This tragic and senseless death should never have happened. With so many families traveling during their summer breaks, I pray no other mother and father endure the McGowan’s anguish.
