The Best Present I Ever Received

The best present my husband ever gave me was a push present. Now some people may argue whether you should give a push present or not. Some people may not know what a push present is. But trust me; you’re going to want to consider this.

Before we proceed, a push present is a present given to your partner to mark the occasion of giving birth.

What was the push present?!

For my first child, my husband gave me a Cannon camera and let me tell you, it saved us THOUSANDS of dollars in professional photography. To clarify, this was my push present, anniversary gift, and Christmas gift all combined in one! Back in the day, it was about $700 for a nice camera. Honestly, this was such a smart move for our family.

Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE and APPRECIATE professional photographers so much. I’m actually obsessed with photography. You can pinpoint me as a tourist in 2.5 seconds because I’m snapping pictures of every single thing. When someone is looking for a Baptism photo from 10 years ago, they call me, because they know I’ll have it. So you know, once I had kids, I had to have hospital pictures and new born pictures and 3 month pictures, 6 month pictures, 9 month pictures, 12 month pictures, Mardi Gras pictures, Christmas pictures, family pictures, and more! People literally spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on pictures every year. For some people, it’s totally worth it. For others, it’s not affordable. Getting your own nice camera may be a better financial option in the long run for those families who cannot afford multiple photo shoots a year.

Do we still get professional pictures done?

Of course! Once every 12-18 months, we get professional pictures done to support our local photographers. My husband and I know that our pictures are not top quality, and we want to have quality pictures of our kids over the years. The professionals are the ones that get those top notch photos that we adore. Sometimes we use a new and upcoming photographer and sometimes a more experienced one. Usually, it’s an acquaintance or someone I know from high school. I enjoy the small, quaint photo shoots, the mini shoot, and doing the big family photo shoots that include the grandparents because that is a wonderful keepsake that can also be printed on ornaments or canvas or frame for their Christmas gifts!

At the end of the day, what worked well for us was purchasing a nice camera as a push present to save some money in the long run while still supporting our local photographers every now and then too! This way we can afford to have 10+ photo shoots a year! Maybe this will help you and your family make memories too!
