Quarantining Turned Me Crazy

I am first going to start this post with some in yo face knowledge. Quarantining makes you do some crazy stuff. I’m not talking about demoing your bathroom or picking up a hobby, I am talking full-fledged, this momma went cray!

I am a city girl, and my neighbors are so close to me they should classify it as “not socially distanced.” I have a fenced-in yard, I have a precious dog, and my carport. I like my little house; it is perfect for me and my son. Then I got the BEST idea! Why not add more clutter and drama to my life and get some CHICKENS. Yeah, chickens. My first thought was, my son will love these and they will make a cute Easter gift. Now, Easter, as you recall, was right in the beginning-ish of quarantine time. My mental health was, ehhhh, so listening to all voices of reason was just not happening.

The day I got said Chickens

My son was gone because he spends Easter with his dad, who lives in another state. So, already, my loneliness and heartache are real. My significant other dropped me off at Tractor Supply while he ran an errand close by. He literally said to me as I am getting out of the car, “Don’t buy any chickens!” Pfft, okay dude, you don’t tell a girl from Louisiana not to do something because you better believe she is now going to do it. Four, yes I said FOUR, chickens later, he comes to pick me up and he sees the basket. His face, oh man, it was worth every penny. We take them home and set up their light and little water and food and I am so happy. They are fluffy and make the cutest sounds and I was just heart eye emoji! I decided to name them after The Golden Girls, so I have Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, & Sophia! More heart eye emojis!!!

Where are you going to put them?

Oh, I honestly hadn’t thought that one through. Where am I going to put FOUR chickens? I just wanted two, I could handle two chickens. The Minimum was four, so FOUR chicks it is. I get my Pinterest on and start pinning coops and chicken crazy lady decor. I am officially all in it. I find so many plans for building coops that it was a bit overwhelming. Many places had them, but they didn’t look like they would stand through hurricane-force winds, let alone a random New Orleans storm. So in steps my significant other who said to not get these adorable chickens. He then builds me the most beautiful coop I could have hoped for. He had it all in his head, he went and got the wood, and built it piece by piece. Here is a picture before we put the fencing up.

Happy Chickens Lay Happy Eggs

So now I am that crazy chicken lady that wants more and more chickens. But no, FOUR, that’s it! THAT IS IT JEANNE! They will start laying eggs in about a month or so and I pretty much will cry when that happens. They have a beautiful coop, nesting boxes to lay their eggs in, a roosting bar to do their roosting, and a big run to roam around in.

So, did you make any quarantine purchases that are out of the ordinary?
