Podcasts You Need To Be Listening To

The Follow Up

Consider this a follow up to my last post about being a podcast junkie. I have my old favorites and some new favorites that I have to share. I listen to podcasts all the time, like really all the time. I listen to them while driving (I drive the Causeway multiple times a week for work), while I am cleaning, while I am cooking, while I am making dinner, and while I am shopping. I am that person with one air pod in almost all the time. *hangs head in shame* So let me turn you on to some of my new finds.

True Crime

First things first, this is what most of us are listening to, right? I definitely am still listening to all the ongoing true crime podcasts I mentioned in my first post (you can find the podcast links in that post as well), but I have added to my library as well.

Suspect is hosted by Matthew Shaer. It is the investigation to the murder of a young woman, Arpana Jinaga, and how the person who is serving time for the murder may not be the right person after all. This is a 9 part series and I could not stop listening ;it was so well done.

To Live and Die in LA (season 2) is another independent investigation into the disappearance of a young woman and the search for who could have played a role in her disappearance and what really happened to Elaine Park. There are 13 episodes, and each one has you questioning who was responsible and who knows the truth. I have not listened to season 1 yet, but it is on my list.

Murdaugh Murders: Okay y’all this one WHAT?! I had seen the story about Maggie and Paul Murdaugh’s murders and shortly after, a story about Alex Murdaugh being shot. Several weeks later, it seemed like there was a lot happening around this family. This podcast is ongoing (at the time I am writing, there are 10 episodes out). The host Mandy Matney has been covering and reporting on the Murdaugh family since 2019. She has spoken to people living in and around the area. Let me tell you, there are so many twists and turns and just plain crazy parts to these cases.

Honorable Mentions: Dateline, 20/20 (The Jim and Tammy Faye Baker episode was really good), Jensen and Holes: The Murder Squad, Dr. Death (season 1 and 2, not related), and Do No Harm (7 episodes).

The Good Stuff

Let’s face it, the gator in the dumpster was the perfect description of what the world has been like the past two years. Literally I find myself asking “What’s next?” so even I have to take a break from the true crime podcasts every once and awhile.

Even The Rich is hosted by Brooke Siffrinn and Aricia Skidmore-Williams. They really are like listening to friends talk; they’re upbeat and funny. The podcast is a series of “where they came from” stories about our favorite celebrities. Each season is about 4 episodes and focused on a celebrity and their rise to fame. I started listening to them on a drive to Disney, and it was so entertaining. They’re my favorite to keep me awake on my ride home from work.

Terrible, Thanks For Asking You know how you really want to respond to people sometimes when they ask how you are? Nora McInerny hosts this podcast and real people tell how they really feel about situations. It’s real and it is all the things: funny, sad, complicated and really just good to hear other people who are dealing with their things. Just like all of us are trying to deal with ours.
