Personalized Gifts: The Perfect Present
I adore personalized gifts – both giving and receiving them. I try to get special gifts tailored to the people I love whenever I can. When one of my best friends asked me to be in her wedding, she presented me with an engraved necklace with my first initial and my birthstone. I wore it often. So often that I had two additional pendants for it – one with my husband’s first initial and one with my son’s name. It was a way for me to keep them both near my heart at all times. When I found out I was pregnant with twins, I knew I wanted to add them to it as soon as we had their names picked out. Now, each child has their birthstone and a uniquely shaped pendant – fitting, because they all have different personalities. I frequently get compliments on my “mom necklace” as I call it.
My doctors were sure that my twins were fraternal, but to everyone’s surprise on the day they were born, they turned out to be very much identical. My mother-in-law dashed around town, trying to figure out how we would possibly keep them identified. She eventually found small anklets that she engraved with their first initial. They still wear them, and they still look exactly alike, so we use this as a line of defense when our other identification methods fail! People notice their anklets and comment on what a great idea they were, made even more special with that perfect personalized touch.
When you have your first baby, you get so much stuff. Stuff you need, stuff you think you need and stuff you really don’t need. When the girls came along, my sister-in-law asked if she could build charm bracelets for the girls for the first few years of gift-giving occasions when they really didn’t need much stuff. I emphatically told her yes-I knew they would treasure those bracelets when they were old enough to wear them. They have birthday charms, birth stone charms, baptism charms, and Christmas charms. I can’t wait to see the girls wear them on their chubby little wrists in a couple of years.
Next time you’re looking for a special gift for someone you love, consider giving something personalized. It’s a great way to show your thoughtfulness. They’ll be sure to get compliments, and they’ll think of you every time they see it.
