This Mom Loves Snapchat!

Confession: I’m a 35 year old mother of 3 who loves SnapChat.

I was a late joiner to Snapchat and was introduced to it by my teenage niece. She would always be on her phone sending Snaps and showing me pictures with cute and fun filters. I, at first, felt that I was too old for Snapchat and was worried to join because I had always heard how dangerous it was. However, I decided to take the plunge into this social media platform. As someone who loves social media, I was pleasantly surprised and now I’m hooked!

Here are the top reasons why I love Snapchat.

The Filters

We can’t talk about Snapchat and not discuss the fun filters. The filters change just about daily, and they are adorable. What is cuter than a baby with a fun filter on his face? Not much. And since the holidays are coming, you betcha that they will have some super fun holiday filters. My favorite thing is taking a selfie of myself as a hot mess but coming out having flawless skin thanks to a filter … thanks Snapchat.

Geographic Location Filters

When you are out and about, check your filters for some fun surprises! Location filters pop up, and sometimes companies pay for filters for their business. I’ve found quite a few fun ones, including this Starbucks filter!

Texting/Video Chatting

It’s not uncommon for me to open up my Snapchat and find my friend sending me a Snap of herself with her daily cup of Joe in the coffee drive thru line after carpool. It’s a fun way to text and send quick 10 second video clips.

No more memory? No problem

How often have you opened your phone to take a picture or video of your adorable child doing something and that pesky alert comes up saying you don’t have anymore memory? Ugh. We have all been there. However, with Snapchat it doesn’t save it to your memory, only your story. So fret not, it doesn’t clog up your phone.

Saving pictures and videos

If you decide that you do indeed need that 10 second clip of your child doing the cutest thing ever, you can decide to download it to your phone. Phew! Once you publish pictures and videos to your story, you have 24 hours to download it. It’s a win, win!

Bonding with your teenage family members

I have nieces and nephews that are in their teenage years, and before Snapchat, I didn’t hear from them that much. But with Snapchat? I get snippets of their lives almost daily. A walk to class with their friends? Oh they snapped that. Or what about pictures before their homecoming dance? They snapped that as well. I’m happy to be able to get a glimpse into their lives because Facebook is SO not cool to the teenage crowd.

Creating custom filters for events

I recently discovered that you can make your own filters. How awesome is that? So for my son’s first birthday party, I was able to do a custom filter and people sent me their pictures and videos of the day with the awesome filter I made. It was adorable and cost me less than 5 bucks.

Follow news outlets and celebrities

Almost every popular news outlet has their own account where they post their pictures and videos and have daily Snap Story’s to follow. I even follow our local news on Snapchat, it’s a great way to get news!

So this Momma has snapped for Snapchat, have you? Snap me! I’d love to hear from you!!
