Listen Up :: Give Audibooks a Try

I’ve never been a fan of reading for fun. I remember when I was younger that my friends loved reading The Baby-Sitters Club and Goosebump series. However, it just was never my thing. Maybe I was too impatient? I found it boring? I don’t know.

Throughout high school and college, I still didn’t develop a love for reading. I would read the books I needed for class but that was about it. If I was headed on a plane or to the beach, I would opt to pick up a magazine over the newest trending novel.

Then I thought one day, why not try audiobooks? So I went to my library, got my library card information and set up an online account with Libby. Libby is an app (there are others) that makes it beyond easy to borrow ebooks, audiobooks and magazines via your library card. A library card is needed and it is FREE. Yep, totally free!
So I quickly downloaded the app and started searching for some audiobooks. I instantly became a huge fan of audiobooks. I’ve “read” many novels and autobiographies. I particularly like audiobooks for autobiographies because they are read by the author and I love hearing them tell their story.

I am now hooked and here are a few reasons why.

I am always in my car. As a mother of 3 boys who each have after school activities, I spend more time in my car than I would like. Instead of just singing along to my favorite tunes nonstop, I open my app and listen to my books. I now look forward to being alone in my car and being able to catch up on the latest novels.

Another reason why I love audiobooks is that you can listen anywhere. Besides the car, I’ve listened to audiobooks while working, cleaning around the house and going for a walk. They are available any time and anywhere. I don’t have to worry about accidentally leaving my book behind, it’s instantly available to me via my phone.

Audiobooks keep my attention. When reading a book, I can sometimes get bored very quickly. But with audiobooks, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The narrators make the story come to life. With their articulation, they can truly perform the book with their voices. A great narrator can make the best book even more entertaining.

Do you listen to audiobooks? What do you like about it?
