Life Gets Messy :: 6 Reasons You Should Have A Bottle of Micellar Water in Your Medicine Cabinet
I have three children ages five and under, so we do *a lot* of cleaning around here. Whenever I come across a great cleaning hack (like this incredible stain remover), I make a mental note of it in case it could come in handy someday.
A few months ago — BEFORE we installed outdoor cameras in the backyard — the older two were playing outside while the baby napped and my husband and I were working in the kitchen. They were suddenly being suspiciously quiet so I stepped onto the patio and peered around the corner to see what they were doing.
What I saw stopped me in my tracks.
My then 4-year-old had found a near-empty can of white spray paint my husband had used to mark the ground from our recent fence build… and he’d sprayed it onto his then 2-year-old sister’s HEAD.
She had spray paint all over her hair, forehead and cheek. Luckily, it wasn’t in her eyes or mouth. I searched my phone to find pictures of this, but I didn’t think to take any in the moment. They were both in great spirits while their mother was trying not to panic.
I hurriedly googled “how to remove spray paint from hair” as I shepherded her into the bathroom and started the shower. The suggestions ranged from “let it dry and pick it out” (which was not an option since it was alllll in her curls) to substances like rubbing alcohol and olive oil.
I opened my bathroom closet and scanned it quickly. Somewhere from the depths of my “Seemingly Useless Information” file in the very back of my mind, micellar water appeared. Specifically, something about the micelles attracting dirt and impurities.
I have a bottle on hand for removing makeup, so I grabbed it and gave her hair a good douse. I tried wiping the area with a washcloth and the spray paint starting coming out like magic! I used close to 2/3 of the bottle that day, repeatedly dousing and wiping, but her head was practically back to normal after only one shower.
After my miraculous experience with the micellar water, I was curious to see if it had any other practical uses.
Here are some other ways I’ve used micellar water:
- Removing spray paint from skin and hair
- Removing hair dye from skin (and also that handy dandy root coverup spray we use between colorings)
- Cleaning my makeup brushes and makeup bags
- Removing makeup from clothing and carpet
- Getting sticky tag residue off products
- Gently removing food coloring from toddler’s skin
