Tire Talk with Bridgestone {Sponsored Post}

Yes, this this a sponsored post. About Tires. I know it sounds boring, but bear with me. To me, tires are simply a necessary evil. You always have to make sure they are rotated and have the right amount of pressure. You also have to spend hundreds of dollars to replace them, often at the most inopportune times. And how do you decide which ones are best? They are all black, rubber and hold air. They should all be about the same right? That’s what I thought, too. Or I would just let my husband take care of it. I could not have been more wrong. Tires are essentially the most important part of your vehicle. The one you drive your kids in each and every day.

Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with some of the experts over at Bridgestone and talk tires with some very knowledgeable men and women. I also got to dog out a BMW, but that’s not really the point. It was super fun, though! And it wasn’t for nothing. I was able to see how well Bridgestone’s new line of tires handled, even in extreme circumstances.  bridgestone

I learned so much from Bridgestone about tires and car safety, and just how instrumental tires can be. I did not know tires were made up of three components: tread, steel belts and casing. I also learned that with most tires if you get a flat you can maybe get one mile before you have to pull over, but Bridgestone found a way to change that. I was given several facts about tires and tire make-up, but what I took away were two analogies that helped me understand just how crucial tires are to overall car performance and safety.

What I likened tires to are shoes and car-seats. Our shoes are the only part of our outfits that touch the ground, and our shoes can make or break us. If we are wearing beautiful 4 inch heels, we may look great, but if our feet are uncomfortable, we will not be walking much at the end of the night. No matter how expensive or nice tires seem, if they are not functional, well, you may not be riding on them very long.

And how are they like car seats? Well, most of us research car seats before we buy them. We spend time checking out all the safety standards and finding the ones that we feel will keep our children protected most if we are involved in a car accident. While it is very important to select the car seat you feel is the safest, it is equally important to select tires which exceed minimum safety standards. According to Bridgestone USA Education Specialist Darlene Gray, a car can only:

• Stop as well as its tires
• Corner as well as its tires
• Ride as well as its tires

Clearly, it is vital to have proper tires in order to drive safely. Honestly, this information may not seem groundbreaking, but tire safety wasn’t something on my radar before now.

When I had the chance to test drive cars with both traditional run-flat tires and DriveGuard tires, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to tell a difference. While I like cars, I wouldn’t consider myself a “car girl.” However, it only took a matter of seconds before I realized what a superior tire this is. In the Nissan Altima I tested, the DriveGuard was a much smoother ride than the traditional tire. Further, I was given a chance to drive an Altima with Bridgestone’s top of the line tire, and there was very little difference between that and the DriveGuard.

Driving on a flat tire is no longer impossible!

As I stated above, Bridgestone has found a way to not let a flat tire completely ruin our day. Sure, it won’t be a fun day, but with most tires, if you get a puncture or a flat, you can get at most one mile. You basically need to pull over to the side of the road immediately to avoid further damage to your car. But with DriveGuard, you can travel up to 50 miles at up to 50 miles an hour to get to safety. With DriveGuard, you will not be stuck on side of the road with cranky kids in the car waiting for help. Nope, you will be able to drive home, to your nearest mechanic or wherever you have to go to get the assistance you’ll need. This is unprecedented in terms of safety and convenience. While a flat tire is an inconvenience, DriveGuard definitely makes it more bearable .
