What is the Children’s Clothing Exchange?
As a transplant to the New Orleans area over 5 years ago, I did not know all of the various shopping options for securing children items and clothes. When I got pregnant with my daughter, I had a friend who told me I HAD to shop the Children’s Clothing Exchange. Of course, I had no idea what that was or what she meant. One quick Google and Facebook search showed me that the Children’s Clothing Exchange is a mom-run and owned, twice a year shopping pop-up right here in New Orleans. Typically the event is held once in the Spring and once in Fall. They sell gently used children’s items like clothing, shoes, baby gear, toys, sports equipment, and even furniture. The items range from newborn and baby all the way to teenagers. There’s even nursing and maternity clothing for the expectant New Orleans area moms.
Why to Consign With Children’s Clothing Exchange
I’m sure I’m not the only parent out there who has cute clothing hanging in the closet that their child wore just a few times or has held up surprisingly well – maybe even still with tags. Why not sell it and make some extra spending money? It’s also a sustainable way to clear clutter from your home. It’s a win-win situation. You get to clean out your child’s closet or your storage area, and you make some money that you would not have had to begin with. To start the process, you register to be a consignor on their website; this is all done virtually now. As a consignor, you simply register your items and list the prices for your items; that’s right, YOU name the price. There is a guideline for pricing but as the original owner of the product, you know how gently used your items are and how much you paid for them/how much you think they could sell for. The best part, besides the extra money, is you do nothing else after dropping the items off at the location for the Children’s Clothing Exchange. The lovely women owners do all of the rest, from selling to staffing the event to writing the check for your items sold. You earn 50% of the final sale price of the items you consigned. Win-Win! Another bonus is that consignors get to shop before the sale even opens to the general public! Consignors get to shop during drop-off days.

Why to Shop Children’s Clothing Exchange
Why pay full price for an outfit that your child will get dirty in an instant, use as everyday play clothing at school or even special occasion garments that get used one time? This is the beauty of the Children’s Clothing Exchange. There are so many items you can get at the Exchange for way less than original store prices. Personally, I have bought so many cute smocks that are originally close to $40-$60 for more than 50% off the retail price. Smocks are so cute, in my opinion, but they can be quite expensive. Most moms cannot rationalize paying $80 for a dress your child may stain with their food. Not to mention, my toddler loves dressing up, so I have snagged many costumes/princess dresses at the sale. Those princess dresses can add up! I was able to get 4 princess dresses with cute princess shoes for the price of one new outfit from a retail store. The sale even helped Santa bring a cute kitchen playset with all the utensils and food. The great thing about buying all these items at a fraction of the price is that you are helping other local New Orleans moms make some extra money. Moms helping moms, it is a solidarity/sisterhood here. The Exchange is so wonderfully organized by sex and size. For example, everything for a female toddler size 3 is in one section, etc. It is so convenient when you may not have a ton of time to shop that everything you will be looking for is in one location without racing around guessing.
