TokTails:: Trying Out Some of TikTok’s Hottest Summer Drinks

Ah, TikTok. You are probably one of the coolest things to come out of 2020.

You caused a feta cheese shortage because we were all trying to make your famous tomato feta pasta recipe and you introduced us to products we just have to try like the revolutionary butt-lifting leggings. What can I say, TikTok? You’ve taught us so very much this past year and a half.

Even though my thirty-something self is definitely not the demographic TikTok was likely designed for, I have spent more than my fair share of time on there. Instead of dances and makeup tutorials, most of my FYP (For You page — the homepage you curate yourself based on what types of videos you “like”) is full of mom hacks and recipes. And among those recipes… are cocktail recipes!

I decided to try out some of the most popular cocktail recipes on TikTok and give my honest opinions. Honestly, this was so much fun and there are so many other recipes I’d like to try, I just might need to come back with a Part 2!

Without further ado, here are my TokTail ratings:

Cotton Candy in a Glass

Cotton Candy in a Glass
4/10: Just ok. Not nearly as sweet as we were expecting. Putting my decorative blue cotton candy in it definitely helped.

1 shot whipped cream vodka
Mountain Dew Voltage (the blue one that’s not Frost Bite)
Optional: simple syrup to taste
Recommended Garnish: blue cotton candy

Add whipped cream vodka to a rocks glass with crushed ice. Top with the Mountain Dew Volt. Stir and enjoy. For a sweeter version, add simple syrup to taste.

PB&J

PB&J
5/10: This one held a lot of promise, but fell a bit short. Tasted reminiscent of cough syrup until we added the club soda and it was waaay better.

1 shot Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
3/4 ounce raspberry liqueur (like Chambord)
Optional: 2 ounces club soda
Recommended Garnish: jelly & graham cracker crumb rimmed glass

Combine Skrewball and raspberry liqueur in a rocks glass with crushed ice. Top with the club soda and stir.

Ranch Water

Ranch Water
6/10: This one’s all the rage on TikTok! Great if you’re a fan of a good tequila. Funniest comment: “This tastes like an alcoholic version of that water in hotel lobbies with the fruit in it.”

2 shots tequila blanco
1/2 lime, juiced
12 ounces Topo Chico, chilled
Recommended Garnish: sliced lime

In a tall glass of crushed ice, combine tequila blanco, lime juice and Topo Chico. Stir and garnish as desired.

Trick-or-Treat

Trick-or-Treat
7/10: If you’re a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup fan, definitely give this one a shot!

1 part Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
2 parts Yoo-Hoo, shaken well prior to pouring
Recommended Garnish: peanut butter cup with small wedge removed to sit on rim

In a cocktail shaker of ice, combine Skrewball and Yoo-Hoo. Strain into martini glass and garnish as desired.

Hawaiian Punch

Hawaiian Punch
8/10: Tastes JUST LIKE Hawaiian Punch! Packs a punch and does not taste like alcohol at all — very sneaky!

1 part cherry vodka
1 part orange vodka
2 parts orange juice
2 parts pineapple juice
Grenadine, to taste
Recommended Garnish: pineapple wedge, cherry

Combine in a tall glass of crushed ice and stir. Garnish as desired.

Key Lime Pie in a Glass

Key Lime Pie in a Glass
9/10: Very refreshing, tastes just like a slice of key lime pie

1 part whipped cream vodka
2 parts Simply Limeade
Recommended Garnish: lime wedge or twist, graham cracker crumb-rimmed martini glass

Combine in cocktail shaker with ice, strain into prepared martini glass. Garnish as desired.

Dole Whiptini
10/10: This was the fan favorite! Don’t sleep on the Sprite topper — it makes all the difference!

1 part whipped cream vodka
1 part coconut rum
2 parts pineapple juice
Heavy splash of Sprite
Recommended Garnish: thin slice of pineapple

In a cocktail shaker of ice, combine whipped cream vodka, coconut rum and pineapple juice. Strain into martini glass and top off with a heavy splash of Sprite. Garnish as desired.

Have you tried any TikTok cocktails that are winners?
