Stress Cleaning – why do we do this to ourselves? I noticed several social media posts right when all of us Louisiana moms were watching the updated paths of Hurricane Ida heading for our shoreline. We had to just sit and wait for news updates and try to figure out what the heck we were supposed to do: stay, evacuate, flee to higher ground??? It was scary and uncertain! Many of us made plans and set precautions in motion. Some of us just got to cleaning!
Weird as it is, I spent the 2 days before the storm hit preparing (by picking up items outside, packing some clothes, and making my plans) but also, I cleaned my house like a madwoman! And organized a few areas too!
All my laundry was done and put away.
My kitchen was spotless.
Floors vacuumed and swiffered!
I even had my kids clean up their mudroom cubbies.
There will be no mess in this stress!
What is the deal?
I think we often battle those things that we can’t control with things that we can control! Getting our house (or office or work or projects) straight somehow feels soothing. It puts something back into balance and makes us feel “right” for just a little bit. Is anybody else with me?

So many Louisiana families lost their homes and precious family heirlooms and memories from the destruction of Hurricane Ida. Clean houses are a ridiculous concept when facing the enormous amount of stress our neighbors face as they rebuild their homes. At NOM, our hearts go out to all of those affected by Hurricane Ida.
