Is it really almost back-to-school time?? Make the end of summer in New Orleans a blast with the help of our August 2017 guide!

August 4-6 :: Head downtown with the family and enjoy the great food and music during Satchmo Summerfest!

August 5 :: B-97 is hosting The Great Play Date, a full day of fun for kids! Your kids can enjoy bounce houses, a rock wall, petting zoo, interactive games, characters and more.

August 5 :: You’re invited to join the Big Latch On: a celebration promoting and supportingbreastfeeding to be held at City Park.

August 5 :: Celebrate the end of summer with a Back to School Bash hosted by La Petite Tea Room.

August 5 :: Make it a date night or bring the kiddos to Whitney White Linen Night. Enjoy exhibition openings at more than 20 Galleries & Museums plus cocktails & cuisine from 25 local restaurants!

August 12 :: Head to the Step Into School Celebration at the Louisiana Children’s Museum. Learn about how to have a healthy and safe start to the new school year while playing in our exhibits!

August 12 :: It’s time for the annual Red Dress Run, benefitting over 100 charities!

August 12 :: Uptown Needle & Craftworks is having 2nd Saturday Sewing School! Children ages 6 and up are welcome to attend. Register here.

August 12 :: Back To School Mini sessions with Tiffany McEntee Photography: 5 digital images to choose from a private online gallery, 15 minutes session, a set of wallets included with a print release all for $70.

August 16 :: Join Touro dietitian Julie Fortenberry and special guestKelley Howard Gill, yoga instructor from Wild Lotus Yoga, for an informative class on nutrition and wellness for expectant and new mothers  The class is free of charge,but registration is required. Register here.

August 17 :: Dive-In Movie Night at the W Hotel French Quarter. Enjoy themed cocktails, small bites and complimentary popcorn round out the movie experience.

August 19, 20 :: Join the Louisiana Children’s Museum for a weekend of financial literacy activities! Learn about how we earn money by working in our exhibits and then spend your earnings in the Little Players Shop during their Earn and Learn weekend!

August 20 :: Just Keep Swimming with the Angels, an Angels’ Place fundraiser. Come out swim, listen to a DJ, eat hot dogs, play indoor and outdoor games all while helping terminally ill children and their families.

August 21 :: All of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. For detailed information on the solar eclipse, including how to view it, can be found here.

August 25 :: The Hammond Downtown Development District presents Hot August Night! This event is getting an upgrade with improved layout, new events in the Kid Zone, an improved Wine Walk AND Craft Beer Walk and more, all with cooling station around every corner to beat the heat.

August 26 :: The 4th Annual Drew’s Tunes Bowl-A-Thon takes place at Fulton Alley. It is their largest  fundraiser of the year and features a silent auction, raffles and live music by The Topcats and The Prescriptions. The mission of Drew’s Tunes: to honor the memory of Drew Joseph Boswell by providing musical instruments to children, expose them to local musicians, and support SUDC.

August 26 :: The 19th Annual CHAIRish the Children Auction Gala, benefiting Louisiana Children’s Museum. At this festive fundraiser, the Museum opens its big blue doors so that grown-ups can be kids again!

August 27 ::Join ALG Style at The Cannery for The Warehouse Sale: A 6 hour Flash Sale piling all of New Orleans, Metairie, and the Northshore’s finest boutiques touting their wares at rock bottom prices. Expect to find serious bargains on summer clothing and new fall pieces.

August 31 :: Metairie Park Country Day School’s Parents’ Association is featuring artists Lee Morais and Rebecca Bordelon in Georges Art Gallery. The art show and reception are free and open to the public. RSVPs requested to
