The New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane kicks off today, March 10th, and runs through Saturday. This free festival brings together well-known, award-winning authors for a celebration of all things literary. Think back to the beloved book fairs of your youth, and now make it a New Orleans multi-day festival with food and music in plenty. It’s the realization of bibliophile dreams.

The New Orleans Book Festival is a partnership between Tulane, Scholastic, and the Mayor’s Office of Youth and Families. It’s located on Tulane’s uptown campus, where various stages will be set up around the central Berger Family Lawn. Stages will host authors as well as musical guests on a familiar-feeling festival lineup timetable. You’ll have opportunities to purchase books and even snag a few autographs. The event is mostly outdoors, rain or shine.
If you’re driving, you can park for free in Tulane campus lots, Diboll Garage, or University Square on Broadway. If you opt for a rideshare, use the destination address 6811 Freret St. If you’re attending the festival on family day, you can even get a free shuttle from a neighborhood library in New Orleans East, Algiers, and Gentilly. COVID precautions are in effect. Upon entry, attendees will need to show proof of vaccine or a negative test result from the past 72 hours. Masks are required for any indoor settings on campus.
Family Day is Saturday, March 12th
For your budding book-enthusiasts, this Saturday from 10am-2pm is Family Day at the fest. You can expect read alouds, book giveaways, child-centered activities, and musical guests galore. In fact, this year’s inaugural New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane is a build from the beloved New Orleans Children’s Book Festival, which launched in 2010 to commemorate 50 years of school desegregation. Children are sure to stay front and center in this year’s re-launch of an important literary tradition.
