Don’t worry, I will not bore y’all with weather and the literal changing of the seasons. Today, I am talking about the changing of life seasons. Everyone has them and they can be difficult to navigate. Lately, our family has been going through lots of life changes, both big and small. I have felt all the feelings and emotions going through it all, and I have learned a couple things through it.
First, it is a season so it’s temporary!
Life won’t always be like this. Sure it is hard, overwhelming and scary, but this too shall pass. I know how cliché that sounds, but I have personally lived through many different seasons and have come out on the other side so I know it is true. During the season, though, I was for sure we would never see the light. So please know that you are not alone!
Second, find your village and lean on them!
I am not good at asking for help. Having three point five kids, a business and a half, a dog, homeschool and more has taught me that it’s okay to not do it all. It’s okay to ask for help, to let people know I can’t do it all, and to reevaluate where my priorities are and take them off my plate. That wasn’t completely fun because sometimes you have to step back from things you actually really enjoy and will miss. But there are only so many hours in the day, and you have to choose what’s most important and what lines up with your family priorities.
Third, take breaks and schedule self-care.
I know this seems like such an easy one but when you’re in that tough season and going through the motions, it gets put on the back burner! I know I am a better mom, wife, friend and person in general when my cup is full. When I get to watch my television shows or go to do something for myself, I feel refreshed. It may seem selfish but it’s not; it’s absolutely necessary. When all else fails? Sleep! It will do your body (and brain!) good.
