Renewing My Passion For Reading :: Books That Have Recently Inspired Me

I don’t know about y’all, but I am a Netflix addict to my core. I love watching it while I cook, work, take a bath, and especially when I need something mindless at night. Now don’t get me wrong; I can also get into a good book, although I seem to go through phases. Mostly because I don’t want to pull a Rory Gilmore and carry around a backpack wherever I go because who knows what I will feel like reading at that exact moment. This summer I got the chance to read a few more books than usual for me (read: zero or one), and they left me feeling really inspired.

When our youngest child Sutton was diagnosed with dwarfism, it was no surprise that I was in a dark spot.

A guy from our church blessed me with some books to read that he thought would help me through the difficult time. He was so right! The first book that I read (and cried through) was A Different Kind of Beautiful. I think that was the fastest I have ever read a book, but I just couldn’t put it down. Not only did it give me a better perspective towards what we were facing, but it also inspired me to write my own book. Maybe one day I will be able to share that book with you!

This summer I read If You Only Knew because it had been blowing up the internet. Hearing such incredible things being said about this book, I just knew I had to read it. I bought it from a friend who had just recently read it and loved it! Then I read Girl Wash Your Face, which I also kept hearing mentioned on social media. These two books were speaking to me. I read them pretty quickly, but I also had to pace myself to make sure that I was taking it all in. If you haven’t read either of these books, I recommend you do it immediately.

This next book is taking me so much longer than the rest because it is really intense for me. Rejection, and the fear of rejection, is a topic I really struggle with. So I find myself reading a chapter and then thinking on it and really letting it soak in before I am able to move on to the next chapter. It really is an exceptional book to read if you have any issues with rejection. The book I am referring to here is Uninvited.

There are so many other books that are on my nightstand that I know I will get to eventually. But for now, I think I’ll be asking for a Kindle Paperwhite for my birthday coming up. Then I won’t have to worry about choosing one book to bring along because I can bring them all!

Have you read any inspiring books lately?
