An Easy Valentine’s Day Gift For Girls

Our home is not one that goes all out for Valentine’s Day, but I still like to get a little something for the kids. Besides the fact that my love language is gift giving, who doesn’t love a little happy now and again? That said, I know many of us struggle with purchasing more plastic tchotchkes that typically get tossed to a dark corner of the playroom after a few days. Lord knows that my children do not need more candy, and He also knows that I cannot see one more piece of LOL trash. Ever. Again.

A dear friend mentioned that her girls have been thoroughly enjoying Sisters First at bedtime, so I threw it in my Amazon cart and forgot about it for a few days. Then we started getting the emails / newsletters / reminders from teachers about sending in Valentine’s Day cards and cue the mom panic because somehow amidst Mardi Gras float building we are also supposed to coax 4 year olds to write “Love, Suzy” 23 times without losing our you-know-what. And it all just piles up to be one.more.thing we have to think about, manage and plan.

We read the same books at night (currently on rotation are Dear Girl, which I highly recommend for little girls and happens to be on major sale right now and Beignets for Breakfast, which is written by a local mom and author and will totally keep you in the New Orleans spirit), so when it hit me that I could use a NEW book as a Valentine’s Day card and gift all in one, voila! Mom magic! No idea why I didn’t think of using a book as a card sooner. I also flipped through Sisters First when it arrived, and it is an absolutely darling and well-written book that I think my girls will enjoy and treasure for a long time.

“Monsters are still scary, and I still fall down, but your sweet, loving presence turns my bad days around.”

So if you need a last minute Valentine’s Day idea for the little girls in your life, head to Amazon and call it a day. It’s a really sweet story with a lovely message. It would make a great birthday present or baby shower gift, too!
