Worth the Drive :: Bay St. Louis Beach

School is out for summer!

The excitement that always leads up to the last day of school wasn’t quite the same this year. However, my kids were still so happy to pack away their workbooks and close their laptops for the summer. We usually head out of town the first weekend and get some much needed sun rays and beach time, but this year is different. With some neighboring states not wanting Louisiana residents to visit, we don’t have all the usual options. So, we decided to head just an hour away to Bay St. Louis for the day. We all put on our bathing suits and packed up the minivan and headed towards Mississippi. We loaded it up with an ice chest full of drinks, towels, sand buckets and a kite. My kids were thrilled at the thought of going somewhere besides a drive thru or a grocery pick up.

It was a weekday so the crowds were minimal to none. We found a spot that had a sandbar and we set up! Beach chairs out, ice chest with cold drinks and our feet in the sand. My husband and I were able to hang out while the kids played in the sand and water. We flew a kite and the kids had a blast each having a turn. We were out there for about 3 hours and the kids were sad when we decided to leave.

This quick day trip was good for all of our souls. The boys laughed, played and just had some much needed fun outside of the house. And I must admit, I had a great time myself seeing how much fun they had. We all ended up some some nice tans and fond memories.

While we hope we can go on a longer beach trip this summer to the Emerald Coast, this surely filled our cup for the time being. We are already planning our next quick day trip!
