Why Everyone Should Take A Trip To Sedona

Recently my husband and I traveled to Sedona, AZ for our 10th wedding anniversary, and it was magical! What I had hoped would be an enjoyable weekend of hiking turned out to be sooo much more. From the weather to the breathtaking scenery, everything about this place is incredible. For years I have heard what an amazing place it is, but you truly have to see it to believe it. The energy there is so peaceful and grounding.

It is quiet, calm, and completely undisturbed by the chaos of most modern cities. So much so, that they have laws prohibiting streetlights in most of the city, just so the stars are still clearly visible at night. It is impossible to be there and not be cognizant of how insignificant we all are when compared to the earth and time itself. Not in a negative way, but in a way that humbles and grounds you. It makes all of life’s mundane challenges pale in comparison to the expanse that our universe. I felt more peace and stillness in my soul in the 4 days I was there than I have in a long, long time.

For those 4 days, my husband and I slowed down. We enjoyed each other’s company without the distractions of children, work, or social media. We unplugged, and recharged. We spent time in nature, time hiking, eating delicious food, sleeping in, and reconnecting. It really is quite a romantic city as well. Save for a few “corporate” hotels, there are mostly Airbnb’s and Bed & Breakfasts. We opted to stay at a gorgeous Bed and Breakfast named Sunset Chateau that is in the heart of West Sedona, and right across the street from one of the many hiking trials in the area. Aside from individual bungalows, Sunset Chateau also has a lovely courtyard with a fire pit, hammocks, and a small pool. The lush landscape surrounding the courtyard makes it feel like an oasis. Many of the popular area tours are within a few miles, or the tour company will come pick you up at the B &B. Sunset Chateau even offers in room massages, which I highly recommend!

I also cannot say enough wonderful things about our day tour to Antelope Canyon! This trip takes roughly 12 hours but is 100% worth it! Not only was our tour guide incredibly knowledgeable, but we were able to see so much. We visited Horseshoe Bend, the Glen Canyon Dam, and finally the Upper portion of Antelope Canyon. Each location was breathtakingly beautiful, and our tour guide was a wealth of information. I learned so much about the history of Arizona, the Navajo People, and their Nation, as well as how our planet’s geology and landscape has evolved over millions of years. It doesn’t hurt that I also got some incredible photos!

So, if you’re looking for a place for a romantic getaway, quick girls’ trip, or opportunity to ground yourself in nature … I HIGHLY recommend Sedona. In fact, I may seriously consider parking my RV there for a while once I retire. But a word to the wise … nearly all restaurants in Sedona require a reservation for dinner. So, be sure to plan in advance. If you’re looking for a upscale dining experience while there, try Rene. It’s in the heart of Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village . Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
