Finish this sentence:

The best gift I ever received was…

For me, it was an ice cream maker last Christmas (here’s looking at you, sis!). Since we don’t experience winter in Louisiana (seriously, those two weeks don’t count), I was able to test it out right away. To say I fell in love instantly is an understatement. I don’t know how I lived my life without an ice cream maker in it.

Now that we are officially in summer, I feel it is my duty to share with all my fellow moms.

Your summer needs an ice cream maker.

Why? I’m so glad you asked…

1. You have 100% control of what you put in your ice cream.

I’m looking at you, allergy moms. You can substitute milk for full-fat coconut milk, forgo food dyes, add gluten-free cookies, use a sugar substitute. The possibilities are endless.

2. Your kids might love it more than you do.

My son gets so excited when we make ice cream. We mix the ingredients together, pour it in the maker, and watch it churn! Since it only takes 15-20 minutes to churn, compared to 6 hours in the freezer without churning, it is pretty dang close to instant gratification.

3. It’s a lot of fun!

I’m not the mom who schedules every waking minute of summertime, and I’m not the mom who wants her child to sit in front of the TV all day (minus the time he’s watching right now while I type this post…). However, I do want my son to have some good childhood memories when he thinks back to summer vacation. Hopefully making homemade ice cream with his mom will make the top of his list.

*Note: Many recipes don’t use an ice cream maker and instruct you to put the mixture in a pan before placing in the freezer. Instead, I make the liquid mixture and pour into my ice cream maker–it’s way faster! Add the cookie pieces, marshmallows, and chocolate pieces the last five or so minutes.
