Resurgence of Ladies Game Night :: Not Your Grandma’s Game Night
Momma needs a distraction from the day to day hustle and bustle. There are more and more options for mommas to attempt to enjoy themselves. One fun new way is game night. We all remember how our moms and grandmas would go to Bingo or Bunco with their friends. I remember vividly tagging along to some of those game time meetups. Nowadays Bunco is back with a fun new twist!
A fun new way to have a Bunco night is Themed Bunco. Add the fun of themed costumes, food, with the classic game. Some Bunco groups do a monthly rotation of Themed nights at a different Mommas home. Some Parishes and YMCAs have group meetups for bunco that anyone from the community can join. From Roaring 20s to Disco to Britney Spears the themes can be limitless. Add a costume contest with the winner winning some of the money pot. Bunco is played in sets of 4 players and a pair of dice. Grab some gal pals and start up a league. This is one fun way to distract the mind and allow for some female bonding sans hubby or kids.
Talk about a step back in time, remember Granny’s group Mahjong dates. There is a resurgence of the age-old game of Mahjong. Some of the newer generations will remember seeing the game of Mahjong being played in the hit movie, Crazy Rich Asians.
Mahjong is played with a group of 4. Originating in China during the 19th century, Mahjong has become a State side sensation. It is a bit difficult at first to get the hang off, some classes are offered locally (I personally took a class at Hilltop Shoppe on Magazine street) and there are some Pop ups as well. The Mahjong tiles come in different styles with the same concept of 144 tiles. The game of Mahjong does require concentration. Studies have found that games that stimulate the mind help with memory. Have fun with your girls and help your mind. It’s a win-win.
Who can forget Bingo? Bingo is the easiest of the game nights to find a group to join. Have Mom or Grandma join you. Bingo groups have weekly games that are just as fun as you remember them. Grab your favorite bingo dauber and get started. From traditional bingo to drag bingo to burlesque bingo, find a game/group that interests you and have fun.
