My Top 3 Reads of 2024 … Thanks to BookTok
I used to be an avid reader before my oldest son was born. I loved to read and would often finish a book in 24-48 hours. Of course, having kids changed that especially with a special need’s kiddo. I had to put my hobbies aside for a while and that was ok.
I recently got back into reading, thanks to BookTok! I would watch tons of TikTok with so many book recommendations and feel envious of everyone posting about these wonderful books that they loved so much, and I wanted that again! Through BookTok, I also discovered Goodreads. You can connect with friends and really anyone to read reviews of any book that you want to read. Complete with star ratings, trigger warnings (yes you read that right, trigger warnings on books) and written reviews, Goodreads and BookTok has helped me research a book before spending hours reading something just to discover that it wasn’t my favorite.
The first book I picked up that was recommended by BookTok was the Court of The Vampire Queen by Katee Robert. Goodness, it was a shocking book to begin my new reading era! My favorite genre is romantasy, especially vampires. This book is romance and fantasy all in one! I started this book not even knowing what a spicy book was, and this book knocked my socks off! This book is about vampires and a love triangle between 3 men and their queen. The spice level is off the charts and made me blush!!! Check your trigger warnings on this book before you read it!
Phantasma, the 1st book in the Wicked Games series by Kaylie Smith, is another romantasy that I loved reading. Phantasma is about a necromancer that is completing in a deadly competition in a haunted house. I won’t give away too much of this book, but the book is filled with trials and a quite different magic system than anything I have read. This book also has spice, and Blackwell is my top book boyfriend! This is my first 5 star read ever, besides Harry Potter and Twilight.
Belladonna was my last book of 2024, and another 5-star read for me! By Adalyn Grace, Belladonna is the 1st book in this YA trilogy. Another fantasy type book, it is a dark gothic fairytale with romantic ghostly vibes. The main character is death … and Signa, the other main character, can not die. This book has spooky murder trials. Even though the book is YA, there is a spicy scene.
As you can see, I have a type of book that I love, but I do want to mention, Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage. This book is the 1st book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series, and it is an amazing small town cowboy romance that I absolutely fell in love with. I went into this book with hesitation, but I needed something light and fluffy after reading so many dark books. This book is a slow burn that took me a little while to get into, but wow, did it knock my socks off! We follow the love story of Luke and Emmy. Luke is Emmy’s best friend’s older brother, and you can imagine how their relationship started off in their youth. This book is filled with frenemies to friends to lover’s tropes and DUAL POV which I LOVE!
I am starting with a reading goal of 50 books this year. Between my kindle, I take it everywhere and audiobooks, I hope to reach this goal.
