Confession: I am a True Crime Junkie

*Warning, there are descriptions of crime scenes in this post*

I think my obsession with true crime started with Law & Order: SVU when I was a teenagerIt was my absolute favorite show. It sort of still is to an extent, especially since Stabler is going to be on an episode soon after being gone from the show for a hot minute. I saw the preview and got literal goosebumps. If you do not know this place, move along. ????

True Crime documentaries are my jam. When you turn your TV on, what channel is normal for you? During football season, it is ESPN or NFL Network for me. Any other time, I got that True Crime 360 Channel on, baby. Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and the crazy Aileen Wuornos. These are some of the most well-known serial killers of the last few decades. If you know, you know.

Ted Bundy is known for kidnapping his victims, raping them, then murdering them. All in all, he confessed to 30 homicides between 1974 – 1978. He was good-looking, which I think threw a lot of people off. He didn’t look like a killer.

John Wayne Gacy, better known as the Killer Clown. He was guilty of murdering over 33 young men and boys. This man was married with children, he just went on about a completely different life, his family had no clue.

Jeffrey Dahmer murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys from 1978 – 1991. Known for his necrophilia, cannibalism, and preservation of body parts.

Oh, and my girl Aileen. If you have not watched Monster with Charlize Theron, you are missing out.

I can watch documentaries on these people till I am blue in the face. I know their stories, which is basically, useless trivia.

Recently, the number of crime shows, documentaries, and podcasts has exploded. Jodi Arias is one that I cannot get enough of. She stabbed her boyfriend over 25 times, slit his throat ear to ear, and then shot him for good measure. She lied to the police saying she wasn’t even in Arizona at the time of the murder. Then all of a sudden she says she was there but two masked intruders killed him while she ran out of the house. Once that lie didn’t work, she claims she killed him in self-defense. Homegirl was found guilty and will be in prison for the rest of her life. The smirk in the mugshot is WILD y’all, and she had to put makeup on before it was taken…mind blown…

How can an everyday person just flip a switch and become a killer? Crime scene photos, psychologists, all the forensics, it is all so completely fascinating to me. I know I am not alone in my weird obsession with crime shows and documentaries, so, welcome to the show!

What is your favorite crime show, podcast, or documentary? I am always on the hunt for new and exciting true-crime goodies.

Jeanne DeLasalle
Jeanne is a single mom to a wonderful son who loves nothing more than her family, friends, and her Saints. Born and raised in New Orleans, she enjoys everything this city has to offer. In her spare time you can catch her napping or binge watching movies on her couch. On Sunday's in the fall, she is in the Superdome and goes into a state of depression when football season is over.

  1. The First Degree. That’s the podcast I’m listening to right now. Super good and it’s not the same old serial killers so it’s all new crimes and murders you would of never heard about.
