As a parent, things must get done. Every day, I think to myself that “There’s not enough time in the day to do anything. Let alone time for myself, Tuh! Yea ok.” I will admit, I’m always tired. I’ll sleep but I never feel rested. As I get older, I’ve realized my energy levels will get lower unless I do something about it. Me time. I need to learn to love and date myself. Self-care/ love is very important. How can I teach my child to love herself if I don’t love myself? So, I’m challenging myself and others to take time for them.
Here are some things I plan to do for my self-care routine:
Every day, I’m going to take 10-15 minutes to listen to a guided meditation and journal my feelings and intentions. I’m an overthinker and I can get in my head A LOT. Meditating and journaling is a way to control inner thoughts, control, and expression.
Even if it’s for 30 minutes, take time to move. Go for a walk/run or head to the gym. I love my gym community I’m a part of. It’s really intense and the coaches are super helpful and supportive.
Relax: you deserve it
Take a refreshing bath, get some bath salt, candles, wine, a good book, podcast, playlist, and relax. Sit however long is needed.
SN: it’s ok to sit in your car sometimes.
I’m going to eat that treat. Hey, it’s all about balance. If you want the ice cream or that big bag of chips DO IT! Don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re beautiful and it’s ok to enjoy the little things.
I love me! Use affirmations to boost the mood.
I have to remind myself that I am important, beautiful, and smart. If I don’t tell myself, who else will? It starts with me. Getting the negative thoughts out of my head by switching them to positive will make things so much better. It’s a great feeling.
Spread love to someone else. It’s ok to tell a stranger that she/he is beautiful, it may make someone’s day.
I plan to go to different places even if I have to go by myself. I don’t mind eating alone or even traveling. Sometimes it’s ok to be alone. Get a new outfit, buy some flowers and go to a nice place alone. Enjoy yourself.
