Ok Lizzo, Let’s Talk … I Need More

Hey Lizzo,

I see you girl. Thanks for being the bold, brave, outgoing person that you are. You show us confidence, self-love, empowerment and girl power. You are a role model to some, and honestly, some don’t really like what you’re doing. Hey, we all have people who secretly want us to fail, but we have more who love and support us no matter what we do. But the last confidence boost you did at the Lakers game, it was a little extreme.

Let’s use this platform for something

I’m here for the bold courageous things that make our culture and your niche’ great, but what will happen when it’s all over? You see, you have a lot of young girls and grown women looking up to you. And us being African-American, plus size women, we do tend to have it harder than some. You are carrying three traits that make it hard to be successful in life, especially how society and the media want us to look. You’re black, you’re female, and you’re plus size. So, when it’s all said and done, what would you want people to see you as after your shine is over? (And hopefully, it won’t end anytime soon.) Do you want them to remember you as a risk-taker? One who people are somewhat getting tired of? Or as someone who demanded this attention and now that you have it, don’t appear to really be doing much with it? Then when the spotlight dims away from you, are you going to pull another stunt like the thong dress?

I need more from you

I want to see more from you. Girl, you have this big stage! Use it! Show these young girls how to use the power and change the mindset of those who don’t think that we can stand for something. Show them that we are professional, and we can carry ourselves in an elegant way. I want you to show the world that yes, it’s great to be you! Represent us in a way that says “I have a fun side but I mean business as well.” Start a body-positive campaign; create a company that can create opportunities for the millions of girls who look up to you. But will you please chill with the stunts at major events that show un-lady like attention? I really do get it! I’m here for it, but let’s switch up the game for something useful, something that will get the naysayers on our side and love us just as much as you show us that you love you!

Let’s use this platform for more than just a week’s worth of conversation. Use it for a lifetime of poise and positivity. Show them that our bodies are more than just a showcase; we stand for more!

Sincerely, a fan that wants you to be more
