Dear 2005 Pam and George,
Congratulations on your wedding day! You both look lovely and so thin! Some food for thought (no pun intended): your metabolism won’t always be so fast. Just keep that in mind when you fill up a bag with Smarties at the candy buffet. (How 2005 of you!)
I know you were a bit disappointed to move your wedding to Baton Rouge, when you’d been planning to have it in your beloved neighborhood of Algiers Point. I know you were planning to take photos on the ferry on the way to the reception. No doubt that would have been lovely, and how nice that back then you didn’t have to pay $2 a head to ride on the ferry! But Katrina had her own plans, and in the end, your wedding was as full of love as it would have been in New Orleans. And that’s all that really matters, right?
I heard the priest mention children during the ceremony. Oh, that’s nice. You want one, maybe two? I don’t want to give away the ending, but let me just laugh hysterically right now.
I know you two crazy kids are going on a honeymoon to England and Wales next week. Have a really great time, and take lots of pictures, because it’s going to be a long time before you can go back. Also, bring back lots of duty-free Winter Pimms. Trust me on this. Soon you won’t be able to stick those bottles in your carry on. And enjoy wearing your shoes through security.
You know that couple that just moved to the neighborhood the day before Katrina? Get to know them. You’re gonna love them.
Keep blogging! Trust me.
Return the crystal and just get some more towels or something else instead.
I know New Orleans is a really sad place right now, but it’s going to get better, I promise.
Be prepared for some big twists and turns in the next ten years. I’m writing this on the tenth anniversary of your wedding day, and if I’d tried to guess how our lives would turn out in 2015, well, I’d have been completely and utterly wrong. How delightful that is! I hope the next decades are just as amazing.
