A Letter to My Son: I’ll Always Be Here To Wipe Away The Tears

Dear Noah,

I remember the days when you would light up when I would pick you up from preschool. You couldn’t wait to give me a hug and tell me all about your day. Your smile would erase NOMB 2any worrisome thoughts on my mind from work, and we were just happy to be together.

In our free time, I remember doing lots of art projects with you ranging from painting silly pictures to making crafty holiday gifts. You were my little side kick. While you of course loved your Dad, we had a close bond that I didn’t think would fade. However, as you have grown up from your preschool days and are now in 1st grade, you have grown closer to your Dad in many ways.

It is very heartwarming to see you and your Dad go fishing together, build things, and play video games. I’m so happy that you both share many common interests and are able to participate in them together. But there is a bit of sadness, and I’ll admit  even jealousy, that makes me long for when you were little.

It’s obvious you favor your Dad these days. However, no matter how old you get and as close as you become to your Dad…I am the one who you call for when you get hurt. And that my little boy, makes my heart fill up! While I know there are seasons of parenting where you will be closest to your Dad and then closer to me, I’m just so thankful that you always still need me to wipe away those tears when you fall and put on your favorite band aid.

Love,

Mommy
