The Guy Teacher Gift Guide
You don’t have to spend a ton or be the perfect Pinterester to show teachers you appreciate them. Finding the perfect gift for every teacher can be challenging, but I’m here to help with a smaller demographic of educators: male teachers. What makes me an expert on perfect gifts for them? I married one, and he helped me put together this list.
Try to get to know the teacher or ask your kids if the teacher has mentioned anything they like. For example, the male teacher that also coaches would love sports store gift cards, while another might have no desire to shop at a sports store but has a few Star Wars items scattered throughout the classroom that can serve as a hint to their interests. If sleuthing is not your specialty, other teachers are usually happy to help with ideas specific to your child’s teacher. Some schools even keep files of their teachers’ favorite things – ask if your school or a room mom keeps this information on hand.
While anything and everything will be met with enormous appreciation, here are some ideas for the perfect way to show your recognition or wish them Happy Holidays.
Anything that shows that thought was put into it. My husband’s absolute favorite things are handwritten notes from families. When he gets those, it’s proof in his mind that he’s making a difference. A friend that loves to fly fish received a set of flies handmade by a family he taught, and he was over the moon about them.
Tervis Tumblers or travel mugs: These are great options for teachers that love coffee, but don’t necessarily head to Starbucks every morning. Perfect for hot or cold beverages, they can transition from morning coffee to water cups during coaching or after school activities.
Alcohol: Because if they’re being honest, school really is a reason they drink.
Grocery store gift cards: Everyone needs groceries. And if you think they principal will frown upon number 3, this is a great option to provide the alcohol you’d LIKE to get them, but might not be appropriate to give in person.
Activities they can do with their families: Rock n’ bowl, City Putt, or gift cards toward dinner or dessert out are a huge treat for a lot of teachers on a budget.
Sports store gift cards: A classic choice, especially for coaches.
Ties or bow ties: There’s always going to be a reason they need to look dapper in school or out.
Small coolers: Great for lunches or after school activities.
Old reliables: Gift cards to Target, the movies, Amazon, Redbox, local coffee shops, or a bookstore will almost always be used. Even $5 to these places goes a long way.
Something for the classroom: Art for the wall, school supplies, books, and more, their home-away-from-home is always in need of something.
Whether you spend nothing or splurge, the teachers in your child’s life are happy to be making a difference. They appreciate you putting your trust in them as you drop them off to school each day. No matter what you choose to do, they will treasure the thought you put into it.
