Fashion Week New Orleans is celebrating its fourth year of producing the Gulf Coast Region’s most impressive and comprehensive fashion industry event. With an engaged and captive audience FW NOLA logo w typeincluding buyers, media, industry professionals and fashion aficionados, the mission of the annual event is to provide a spotlight for the Gulf Coast design community to showcase their inspirations.

As the catalyst and driving force that has propelled the local fashion industry, the five-day event, scheduled for March 18-22, 2014, will host runway fashion shows featuring established designers from the Southern region, emerging designers competing in the Top Design Competition, as well as chic parties and industry networking opportunities.

So That All Sounds Awesome But What Does This Mean to ME as a Mom?

We asked Fashion Week New Orleans founder Tracee Dundas ourselves: how does this relate to momms? Why should we all be interested? Visualize me on the couch in my workout clothes as I type this; ALG Style, our Fashion Fairy Godmothers would be ashamed! Tracee explained that Fashion Week New Orleans has a dual appeal for moms as it is first and foremost a great girls’ night out where moms can enjoy fabulous fashions from Southern designers and local boutiques. Secondly, moms can also check out a special children’s segment on the runway (on March 20th) and visit the “Style Lounge” marketplace with vendors that carry unique items, shoes and accessories.

Is Fashion Week All About Women’s Fashion?

This year Fashion Week New Orleans will have several children stores showing on the runway. Anne’s Boutique (Mandeville) and Ava’s Attic (Westbank) are both showing on Thursday, March 20, and Blossom Girls (Mandeville) will rock the runway Friday,March 21. Runway shows will also include men’s fashion, as well as bathing suits!

How Can Fashion Week Help Me as a Mom?

Fashion Week New Orleans founder, Tracee Dundas, does not have children, but as a woman who has put together a multi-day/multi-event show such as this we know that she is an expert at juggling the metaphorical balls of life. So we asked her what she thought are the biggest challenges PaperDoll_1 (1)of working, staying current and multi-tasking (even if that is in the form of motherhood). She said, “The challenge is always time and fashions that are stylish, trendy, yet practical. Make sure you have strong staples in your wardrobe that will also allow you to mix and match pieces easily. Don’t be a victim of following all trends, but don’t think that just because you’re a Mom you can’t be just as fabulous as anyone else.”

We would also like to point out that although the term “Fashion Week” envokes visions of swanky, costly, affordable frocks for some, this year’s line up has many companies listed in price points that will not break the bank.

Some of the New Orleans Moms Blog team’s favorites that are involved in Fashion Week include:

  • tasc Performance (also giving away tickets to their show and an entire outfit on the blog now)
  • Swim N Sport
  • Hemline
  • The Elizabeth Chronicles
  • Perlis – we love those Mardi Gras rugby shirts!
  • Passion Lilie (we will be giving away a $40 gift certificate to one lucky Mom at our 4/3 Moms Night Out at Bra Genie on the Northshore)
