Presents with a Purpose: Especially Eden Baskets

We are quickly approaching THAT time of year (aka the holidays) where gift giving amplifies. My own family’s list seems to grow each year: more teachers, new family members, new co-workers, etc. Giving is just as much fun as receiving. Brainstorming for the perfect gift for each person that you really hope makes their day makes it even more exciting. How great would it be to give gifts with a purpose? Gifts that not only make the receiver feel special and the giver feel joy, but also ones that help a fantastic organization. Eden House is making that possible.

Eden House

Eden House is a unique concept that serves an important purpose: “to eradicate the trafficking and selling of human beings.” Right here in New Orleans Eden House assists both adult female victims and young girls.  For adult women who are victims of sex trafficking, they provide housing, recovery assistance, paid employment and work skills; and they empower young girls to say NO to sexual exploitation through their prevention program R.E.A.L Choices.  Since 2012, more than 53 women have received housing and direct support services, and more than 250 women have been assisted through resources and referrals. Eden House has provided these services without direct government funding; part of their fundraising is done through the Especially Eden boutique.

Especially Eden serves a twofold purpose: to provide job skills and employment opportunities to the victims Eden House serves and to raise money for their programs. Who doesn’t enjoy a gorgeous gift basket? The Especially Eden baskets are not only special because of whom they support, but some of the items are unique New Orleans brand and others are handcrafted by residents. My basket included a note signed by Sharon. Finding that card as I went through my items made my basket feel so much more personal.

Items in my Especially Eden basket:

  • Candle in an Especially Eden tin
  • Gorgeous garnet colored earrings made by a human trafficking survivor
  • Cocktail & Sons syrup
  • Native nail polish
  • Hand painted decorative oyster shell
  • Elmer Gold Brick topping
  • Bonfolk socks
  • Orleans Coffee in Eden House Blend
  • Jambalaya Girl gumbo base
  • Alexa Pulitzer note cards

You can find something for every budget in the Especially Eden boutique. The 5 standard gift baskets range in price from $35-$75, and can also be customized by request. They also sell smaller items such as bracelets and coffee mugs that range from $4-$10. The holidays are on my brain, but these baskets would be perfect teacher appreciation, housewarming, or birthday gifts. What is better than shopping locally and supporting prevention, education, and recovery for New Orleans ladies?
